Mr Green Review

Previously well known for their casino Mr Green launched their own sportsbook just in time for Euro 2016. The Mr Green sportsbook is licensed and regulated in Malta and is a subsidiary of Mr Green & Co which is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The casino has been around for about 10 years and was begun by a trio of Swedish entrepreneurs with experience in the gaming industry.

The Website

The online sportsbook is part of their main casino and gaming website and to access you hit “Sports” at the top left corner of the page. This is the first issue we have with Mr Green. Because when you hit Sports you aren’t taken to a page with the standard 3 column setup that lists sports down the left, markets, odds etc. in the middle and your betting slip on the right. Instead you’re taken to a page with a pretty confusing layout that offers links to major betting attractions like the Premier League, Horse Racing, Champions League, major tennis events and in-play (Live) betting across the top. If you aren’t looking for one of those options there’s one last link on the far right that says “All Sports”. Click that to find cricket, American Football, Rugby and most of the sports they offer action on.

Frankly we don’t understand the impulse to re-invent the website design wheel on display at the Mr Green site. Could we get used to the slow loading animations and head scratching layout? Sure. But life is short. Why subject us to a learning curve when it’s not necessary? We’ve heard the Mr Green website design described as ‘fun’. Actually ‘annoying’ would be a better word.

In-Play Betting

Web design aside Mr Green offers a wide variety of sporting events to wager on and most all of them are also available for in-play betting (they call it “live” betting). Besides football, tennis and basketball Mr Green offer in-play betting on:

  • American football
  • Australian rules football
  • Major League Baseball
  • NBA and international basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Handball
  • Ice Hockey
  • Motorsports
  • Rugby Union
  • Rugby League
  • Snooker
  • Surfing
  • Tennis
  • MMA/UFC
  • The Olympics
  • Skiing
  • Yachting
  • And of course, horse racing

A copious number of markets are available on most sports and with football there’s a statistics screen as well that keeps you informed on the details of each match. In general the in-play offerings from Mr Green are good to excellent.

If there is one area (besides the website design) where Mr Green drops the ball it’s in the area of live streaming. That is, they don’t offer it. Why? 1995 was a long time ago. In 2017 we have lots of bandwidth and offering live streaming of sporting events is a commonplace. In our mind you can’t make a serious claim to being a top flight online betting site if you don’t offer live streaming.

Mr Green Bonus and Promotional Offers

Much to our consternation Mr Green offer virtually nothing by way of bonuses and promos. The one bonus currently in play is the Mr Green Matched Bonus. When you deposit a minimum of €10 you’ll receive a matching Mr Green bonus of up to €100. But the Mr Green matched bonus is it. If you’re like most punters you appreciate the promos and bonuses you get from a site like Titan and are left scratching your head wondering why Mr Green is such a tightwad.

Deposits and Payments

Mr Green is the classic good news/bad news online betting portal and now we’re back to the good news. The company offer many reliable ways to handle deposits and payments. They also allow 1 free withdrawal per week (although they impose a 1% fee on any additional withdrawals up to a maximum of €10). Debit/payment methods currently in use:

  • PayPal
  • Skrill
  • ClickandBuy
  • Neteller
  • Paysafecard
  • Skrill
  • NETELLER
  • MasterCard
  • Maestro
  • VISA Electron
  • VISA
  • Bank Transfer

Mr Green also offers decent customer care services that can be accessed via telephone, email, chat and/or their website contact form. These services are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

What We Like About Mr Green

For a site that only went live a year ago Mr Green is earning our respect for the sheer number of in-play betting markets as well as their largely competitive odds. We also appreciate the number of deposit/payment options and their Mr Green Matched Bonus of up to €100 is a nice way to begin a relationship. We also like the variety of customer service options and the people who answer the phone are typically polite and more or less well-informed.

What We’re Not Crazy About

As we said up front we don’t see the need to reinvent the gambling website. The 3 column design used by most premium betting sites today was arrived at after years of trial and error. It’s as if Mr Green’s creative team members made a decision to go ‘distinctive’ instead of practical. But where there’s money on the line the more practical and intuitive the better. We also don’t like the absence of Mr Green bonus offers other than the Mr Green Matched Bonus. And last but certainly not least we don’t understand how a company that aspires to join the major players in the online sportsbook industry could not offer live streaming.

Conclusion

We had high hopes for the Mr Green online sportsbook before we began this review and by the time we finished it those high hopes had transmuted into a bag of mixed feelings. Certainly they offer a tonne of in-play action in every conceivable market with competitive odds. On the other hand their lack of live streaming just doesn’t make sense nor does the lack of Mr Green bonus options and we found their website to be the least user friendly of all the major betting sites we’ve reviewed. So, if you want a cornucopia of in-play betting markets Mr Green may be for you. But if you’re the type that likes their bonuses and promotions you’re not going to be thrilled by the guy in green.
