Lyon vs Sevilla Match Prediction
Olympique Lyonnais host Sevilla at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on 07/12/16 with the winner earning a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Our SBAT preview will bring you a form guide, team news and a betting preview.
Lyon were handed a lifeline in their hopes of making the knockout stages of the Champions League on matchday five, after Juventus’ victory over Sevilla in Spain. The Ligue 1 outfit now require a wn by two clear goals over their La Liga counterparts if they are to progress through to the next round of the competition, having lost 1-0 in the reverse fixture and Sevilla’s greater goal difference leaving them needing to score goals. They had no such trouble finding the back of the net at the weekend and will hope they haven’t used up all their magic at once, winning 6-0 away to Nantes to give a real confidence boost ahead of this outing. Goals from Corentin Tolisso, Alexandre Lacazette, Maxime Gonalons, Mathieu Valbuena, Mouctar Diakhaby and Nabil Fekir sealed the victory for Lyon, who have struggled in the league this term. Already ten points behind third-placed PSG in the Ligue 1 table, the chances of them earning a place in the Champions League this season through their domestic performance already appears slim. Alternatively, they could qualify for Europe through winning European competition, which would ultimately be more realistic to achieve via the Europa League than the Champions League.
Sevilla missed the chance to seal their place in the last 16 of the competition last time out, throwing away a one-goal lead to lose 3-1 to Juventus, having a man sent off in the process. Although the result now leaves them with a nervy finish to the group stages on Wednesday night, their fate is still in their own hands, with a one-goal defeat or better sealing their place in the next round of the competition. Having kept two clean sheets in their two away European fixtures so far in the group stages, Sevilla will be full of confidence in their ability to go to France and get a result on Wednesday evening. However, they will need to perform much better than they did at the weekend, losing 2-1 away from home to Granada. Andreas Pereira and Lomban scored either side of half-time to put the hosts in a comfortable position, with Wissam Ben Yedder’s penalty in the 95th minute doing little to affect the overall result of the match. Jorge Sampaoli’s men now sit seven points behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga table, but do sit above Atletico Madrid and Villarreal in the standings. Saturday’s defeat was Sevilla’s first away from home in their last five in all competitions and will be looking to avoid a similar result this time around to book their place in the last sixteen.
Lyon Team News
Anthony Lopes (arm), Nicolas N’Koulou (stomach) and Emmanuel Hernan Mammana (groin) are all doubts for the home side. Christophe Jallet (back) could be involved, while Nabil Fekir will hope to start after coming from the bench on Saturday to score.
Sevilla Team News
Franco Vazquez finds himself suspended for this one after his red card against Juventus last time out. Carlos Fernandez Luna (cruciate ligament) is a doubt, while Benoit Tremoulinas (thigh) and Michael Krohn-Dehli (knee) may return.
Betting Tips and Predictions
In a huge game for both sides, I’m expecting each team to cancel the other out and for this one to end as a draw.
