Sevilla vs Villarreal Match Prediction
Sevilla’s five-match winning run in the Spanish league came to an end with a surprise 3-1 loss against Espanyol. Nicolas Pareja’s second-minute sending-off proved a crucial, as Espanyol took the lead through José Antonio Reyes from the resulting penalty. Even though Stevan Jovetic provided an equaliser, the home team were able to comfortably dispatch the 10-men with goals from Marc Navarro and Gerard Moreno. Villarreal managed their first league win of 2017 after a 2-0 win over strugglers Granada. Bruno and Alvaro Gonzalez scored a goal in either half to revive Villarreal’s top four challenge.
Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.
Sevilla paid a big price for their leaky defence in the last few weeks, as they conceded three against Espanyol. Sevilla have now conceded two or more goals in their last four games. In the top half of the table, only Eibar and Celta de Vigo have conceded more goals than Jorge Sampaoli’s team. While scoring goals has been a positive element, Sevilla will always drop points in unexpected circumstances like they have against Sporting Gijon and Granada. While the away form is reasonable, Sevilla are almost impeccable at home winning eight out of the nine games.
Villarreal’s hopes of finishing in the top four looked in tatters a week ago, as the team went on a three-match winless run. Returning to form was crucial against Granada, despite the game pitting them against a relegation threatened outfit. February will be a crucial month for the Yellow Submarines, as they come up against three of the top five – Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Real Sociedad. Villarreal have taken most of the points (23 out of 34) at the El Madrigal. Villarreal have not entered into a top four challenging position by outscoring the opposition, but they have focused on defence, which is the best in the division after conceding only 14 goals.
Sevilla Team News
Nicolas Pareja will miss the game as a result of the red card in the last match. Juan Soriano (sprained knee), Michael Krohn-Dehli (meniscus), and Carlos Luna (cruciate ligament) are the players on the treatment table for Sevilla.
Villarreal Team News
Roberto Soldado (cruciate ligament), Denis Cheryshev (muscle), Mateo Musacchio (broken wrist), and Victor Ruiz (back) are unavailable due to injuries. Roberto Soriano and Alvaro Gonzalez are suspended for the game.
Betting Tips and Predictions
Sevilla are the most entertaining team involved in the title race at the moment. Not only do they score goals, but they also let the opposition score. The weak defending has seen the team concede an incredible eight goals in the last three league matches. A return of just three clean sheets since October put the team under a lot of pressure. However, they are up against a Villarreal team with just one win in the past five visits to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. I would back a Sevilla win.
The last 10 league matches involving Sevilla have seen over 2.5 goals. I would back this game to witness over 2.5 goals.
