Granada vs Real Sociedad Match Prediction

By Darren Colebrook

This should be an exciting encounter given the penchant for both teams to score. Despite being at the wrong end of the table, Granada have given the top teams tough times, with Barcelona’s hard-fought 1-0 win against Lucas Alcaraz’ team a prime example. Since the arrival of the 50-year-old, results have improved for the team placed one place above the bottom of the La Liga. Real Sociedad, meanwhile, are hoping to close the gap on the top three. Eusebio Sacristán’s team also have had some impressive results of late, most notably the 1-1 draw with Barcelona and the 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid. Here we have our full match preview with all the latest predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Granada Preview

Granada have improved a lot since the arrival of Alcaraz. The team has suffered only one defeat in the last five games. More importantly, they have found a goal scoring touch, which is extremely crucial for relegation threatened teams. Granada have scored six goals in their last five matches after having scored only two goals in the previous five. A win against Sevilla at the start of December gives the team a lot of confidence, as would the point against Malaga last weekend. Artem Kravets’ goal nine minutes from time cancelled out Malaga’s goal to earn a point for Granada.

Real Sociedad Preview

Summer signing Willian José has been a revelation for Real Sociedad. Backed by the goals provided by the Brazilian, the club have been able to secure some impressive results against Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia in recent weeks. The 25-year-old has scored six goals in his last seven games, but he is doubtful with an ankle injury. Scoring goals has been the club’s biggest forte this season, and they are just two short of being the third best scorers in the division. A concern for Real Sociedad would be the lack of any clean sheet in the last five games of all competitions.

Granada Team News

David Barral, Rene Krhin, and Ruben Vezo are all back in training. The club will be without Gabriel Silva (hamstring), Luis Martins (ankle), Isaac Cuenca (virus), Dimitri Foulquier (thigh), and Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez (hamstring). Uche Henry Agbo is suspended for the game.

Real Sociedad Team News

Héctor Hernández Ortega, Jon Gaztañaga, and Ruben Pardo have marked their return to training. The players on the treatment table are Agirretxe (ankle), Willian José (ankle), Illarramendi (groin), Bergara (ankle) and Mikel González (sprain). David Zurutuza will be suspended for the game.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Real Sociedad have either scored or conceded more than two goals in the last five away matches. I expect another high-scoring match involving Real Sociedad as the away team largely because Granada have been on a fine scoring run of late.

Regarding the overall result, I expect Real Sociedad to slightly edge the home team largely as a result of the confidence obtained from high profile results against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The goalscoring threat of Real Sociedad would decrease significantly if Willian José fails to make it to the match due to a recent knock. In such a scenario, a draw would be highly possible.

Both teams to score – 4/5

Real Sociedad to win – 19/20
