FC Cologne vs Schalke 04 Match Prediction
Schalke 04 will be looking to extend their undefeated run in all competitions to five games when they travel to the RheinEnergieStadion to take on FC Cologne on Sunday evening. FC Cologne were narrowly beaten 2-1 on the road at Freiburg last time out in the Bundesliga despite having had several goalscoring opportunities. They were one-goal down just after the half-hour mark, but Anthony Modeste managed to level the game just before the break. However, the hosts started the second half in a better manner and scored the winner with just 15 minutes to go. On the other hand, Schalke 04 won 2-0 at home over Hertha Berlin last weekend, with Guido Burgstaller and Leon Goretzka scoring a goal in each half for Markus Weinzier’s team. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.
FC Cologne Preview
FC Cologne kicked off the new year brightly with two victories and one draw in their opening three Bundesliga fixtures after the winter break. However, they were knocked out from the DFB Pokal Cup a fortnight ago following a 2-0 defeat on the road at Hamburger SV and followed this up with a narrow 2-1 away loss at Freiburg last time out in the Bundesliga. The only good news is that Anthony Modeste managed to score again last weekend, and he is now leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 16 goals in his 20 league appearances. Despite the defeat, Koln still find themselves in a comfortable 7th spot in the Bundesliga table with 32 points to their name after 20 rounds, just one point off the top six. Cologne’s main reason for their good performances throughout this Bundesliga campaign has been their solid defence. They have only conceded 18 goals in 20 league outings, which is the second joint best defensive record in the division. Their home form has also been impeccable throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as Cologne are unbeaten in nine home league fixtures so far this season. They have won five and drawn four in the process while conceding just four goals in the process. Cologne should feel confident ahead of this clash as they picked up a 1-3 victory over Schalke 04 in the reverse fixture.
Schalke 04 Preview
Schalke had a terrible start to this 2016/2017 competitive season, but they started the new year in a much better manner. Schalke have only lost once in their six competitive fixtures after the winter break, and are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Schalke have won comfortable 2-0 against Hertha Berlin last time out in the Bundesliga, and followed this up with an impressive 0-3 away win at PAOK in their midweek Europa League round of 16 tie, first leg. Schalke looked very well-organized at both ends of the pitch over the past three weeks, scoring 10 goals and conceding just two in the process. Schalke find themselves only in 11th position in the league table tied on 25 points with the 12th-placed Mainz 05, already nine points clear off the relegation zone. The away form has been Schalke’s biggest problem throughout this Bundesliga campaign, as they have only won once in their nine away league fixtures. However, they have improved a little bit on the road over the past three weeks, having won two and drawn once in their last three away games in all competitions. In addition, Schalke picked up a 1-3 victory at FC Cologne in their most recent trip to the RheinEnergieStadion.

Betting Predictions and Tips
|FC Cologne Draw no bet||8/11||Bet365|
|Under 2.5 Goals||4/6||Sky Bet|
|FC Cologne 1-0||10/1||Ladbrokes|
Both sides have been solid at the back throughout this Bundesliga campaign, and this makes me backing a low-scoring affair. Although, Cologne should be able to snatch at least one point from this one as their home form this season has been impressive. They are unbeaten in eleven competitive fixtures so far this season, conceding just five goals in this term.
