Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen Match Prediction
Bayer Leverkusen will look to build on their recent victory in the Bundesliga when they travel to the WWK Arena to take on Augsburg on Friday night. Augsburg were beaten 2-0 on the road at Mainz 05 last time out in the Bundesliga despite having had the better ball possession and more goalscoring opportunities than the hosts. On the contrary, Bayer Leverkusen picked up a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to a brace from Chicharito and a late strike from substitute Kevin Volland. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.
Augsburg’s two-game winning streak in the Bundesliga ended on Friday as they lost 2-0 on the road at Mainz 05. This leaves Augsburg only in 13th position in the Bundesliga table with 24 points after 20 rounds; eight points clear of the drop zone. Augsburg’s main issue throughout this Bundesliga campaign has been their inefficient attack as they hold one of the worst offensive records in the division, scoring just 18 goals in 20 league fixtures. The good news is that Augsburg have been a little bit more organised at the back this season, as they only conceded 24 goals in 20 rounds. Halil Altintop and Dong-Won Ji have been Augsburg’s most in-form players this season, having scored three goals each. Augsburg’s recent home form has been a complete mixed bag with five draws, three victories and two defeats in their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Augsburg are winless in their six competitive home games against Bayer Leverkusen, conceding at least two goals in each of these. Head-to-head, Augsburg are winless in the last nine meetings with Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions since a 2-0 win back in July 2012.
Bayer Leverkusen Preview
On the contrary, Bayer Leverkusen have finally returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga last weekend, as they managed a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Prior to this result, Leverkusen suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hamburger SV. The good news is that Chicharito has finally found his goalscoring boots, as the 28-year-old striker netted a brace last weekend to increase his tally to 8 in his 18 league appearances this season. Hakan Calhanoglu has also helped the team with six goals and five assists this season, but he has been suspended for four months due to a dispute between him and the Turkish club Trabzonspor, which occurred in 2011. Lever managed a decent tally of 31 goals in 20 rounds this season, but they struggled a bit to keep the ball out of their own net. They have already conceded 29 goals in 20 league fixtures, which is the second worst defensive record in top ten. On the road, Lever have collected 10 points from a possible 27 this season, having scored just 11 goals in nine away league fixtures. Bayer Leverkusen find themselves only in 9th spot in Bundesliga table with 27 points after 20 rounds, just six points off the top six.
Augsburg Team News
Ja-Cheol Koo, Marwin Hitz and Alfred Finnbogason are all doubts, while Jan Moravek and Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker are both missing through injury.
Bayer Leverkusen Team News
Jonathan Tah is a doubt, but Hakan Calhanoglu and Omer Toprak are both missing through suspension. The good news is that Alexander Dragovic and Admir Mehmedi are both back in training.
Bayer Leverkusen Team News
Bayer Leverkusen hold an impeccable head-to-head record over Augsburg in their competitive fixtures, but three of the last four meetings between these two sides haves seen goals at both ends of the field. Actually, Augsburg’s last four home games against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga have seen both teams getting on the scoresheet. I think this will be the case in this one also, but I’m also expecting an open affair.
