Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Manchester City host Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on 27/04/17 in a huge Manchester derby which could determine the fate of both teams’ seasons. City will be looking to respond after losing 2-1 to Arsenal after extra time in the FA Cup semi-finals. United, though, continued their surge towards the top four with a comfortable 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a potentially pivotal meeting in the season’s of both sides, as each team looks to solidify their place in the top four. Not losing is arguably more important for both than putting their neck on the line to win the game, with both teams still having games in hand on 3rd-placed Liverpool. As such, I’m expecting this to be a draw, with both looking to make up ground on Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Draw - 11/4

Both teams to score YES - 7/10

1-1 draw - 13/2

Man City Preview

Manchester City were unable to cling onto their one-goal lead at Wembley last weekend, as Arsenal fought back to claim a 2-1 victory and a place in the FA Cup final. After a tedious and tense first half, Yaya Toure released Sergio Aguero who maintained the composure to dink the ball past Petr Cech in front of the City supporters. However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s floated cross to the far post was slammed home by Nacho Monreal to send the game into extra time. During extra time, Aguero was substituted and, just two minutes later, Alexis Sanchez slid the ball beyond Claudio Bravo as Arsenal booked a third FA Cup final in four seasons. For City, though, it ensured that Pep Guardiola will end his first season in charge of the club trophyless - the first time he has failed to win silverware in a campaign in his managerial career to date. This is a must-win game for Manchester City, who will be overtaken by United in the table should Jose Mourinho guide his side to three points at the Etihad. City have been susceptible to drawing games at home in recent weeks, with three of their last five at home finishing honours even, while their home record against top-seven sides hasn’t been especially impressive. Guardiola has won just one of five games against sides in the top seven at the Etihad to date, drawing three and losing one as they look to cement their top-four challenge here.

Man United Preview

Manchester United come into this fixture knowing a victory would see them break into the top four after they beat Burnley 2-0 away from home at the weekend. A devastating counter-attack saw United take the lead, with Anthony Martial drove forward before offloading the ball to Ander Herrera. The Spaniard played a return ball and Martial finished past Tom Heaton to score his first Premier League goal since February 11. Martial was then involved in the second, latching onto Paul Pogba’s through ball and his effort was deflected into the path of Wayne Rooney who managed to poke the ball across the line from close range. Now just a point off the top four, there is huge incentive for Jose Mourinho and his team to go and win this game, but the pragmatic side of Mourinho may see him set up for a draw as he so often does away from home in these titanic meetings. United also sit just three points behind Liverpool in the table with two games in hand and can overtake them in the table with a win and a draw in those extra pair of games. In recent weeks, United have been superb away from home, winning their last four away games on the bounce and have a record of eight victories and two draws since their last away defeat, that being a 4-0 loss at Chelsea on October 23. United will also have the added motivation of avenging their only home defeat this season, with City winning the reverse fixture 2-1.
