Lyon vs Dijon Match Prediction

By Herbie

Lyon will be aiming to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they welcome Dijon at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday afternoon. Lyon threw away a one-goal lead to suffer a 2-1 defeat on the road at Guingamp last weekend. Alexandre Lacazette gave Lyon the lead in the 10th minute, but 24 minutes later they conceded two goals within the space of four minutes. On the other hand, Dijon won 2-0 at home against Caen thanks to goals from Mehdi Abeid and Lois Diony. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Lyon Preview

Lyon have been struggling for fluency in this early part of 2017, winning four and losing five of their nine games across all competitions after the winter break. After a comfortable 4-0 home victory against Nancy a fortnight ago, Lyon suffered an unexpected 2-1 defeat on the road at Guingamp last weekend. However, Les Gones looked much better in midweek, as they managed an impressive 1-4 victory at AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie. Regarding their Ligue 1 campaign, Lyon currently sit in 4th place in the standings, but they are too far behind the top three of Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Nice to challenge for a Champions League spot. Les Gones looked very good in the final third so far this season, as they hold the 3rd best offensive record in the division with 45 goals scored in 24 league fixtures. Alexandre Lacazette has been phenomenal for Lyon this season, as he is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 20 goals in his 21 league appearances. Mathieu Valbuena and Nabil Fekir have also enjoyed a decent Ligue 1 campaign, as the pair bagged 11 goals and six assists between them. Lyon can count on their recent home form ahead of this clash as they have won four of the last five home fixtures across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Dijon Preview

Meanwhile, Dijon’s 2-0 home win over Caen last weekend ended a three-game losing streak across all competitions. During their poor run of form, Dijon have conceded at least two goals in each of their three defeats. They currently stand in 13th position in the league table tied on 27 points with Angers, Nancy and Metz, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Dijon managed a decent tally of 34 goals in 25 rounds this season, but they really struggled at the other end of the pitch. The minnows have conceded 37 goals so far this season, which is one of the worst offensive records in the league. Lois Diony and Julio Tavares are Dijon’s joint top scorers at the moment with seven goals each under their belts. Pierre Lees Melous has also enjoyed a decent Ligue 1 campaign, helping the team with five goals and three assists in his 21 league appearances. On the road, Dijon were on a three-game unbeaten run in all competitions prior to their back-to-back defeats at the hands of Bordeaux and Metz in their most recent two trips. However, Dijon should feel confident ahead of this tie, as they managed to secure an impressive 4-2 home win over Lyon in the reverse fixture.

Lyon Team News

Matthieu Valbuena is out through a thigh injury, while Rafael da Silva is a doubt. In addition, Corentin Tolisso is missing through suspension.

Dijon Team News

Frederic Sammaritano and Marvin Martin are both doubts, but Pierre Lees-Melou is definitely out through a hamstring injury. Furthermore, Vincent Rufli is missing through suspension.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Despite their recent mixed form, Lyon have been a strong side in front of their own fans this season, and their recent goalscoring form has been impressive. They have scored 15 goals in their last five home fixtures in all competitions and I’m backing them to score a couple in this one also.
