Huddersfield Town vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Huddersfield Town welcome Manchester City to the John Smith’s Stadium on 18/02/17 in a Championship-Premier League FA Cup fifth round tie. Huddersfield won their fifth game on the bounce at the weekend, beating Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Loftus Road on Saturday. Manchester City meanwhile cruised to a 2-0 win away at Bournemouth in their last league outing. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Huddersfield Preview

Huddersfield kept the gap between themselves and the automatic promotion places at six points on Saturday, beating QPR 2-1 away from home as they look to apply pressure to Brighton and Newcastle. They found themselves two goals to the good at the break, as Izzy Brown and Nahki Wells hit the back of the net to leave David Wagner’s side in a comfortable position. Substitute Luke Freeman pulled one back for QPR on his home debut for the Hoops but the Terriers held firm for the three points. Since December, Huddersfield have lost just one of fourteen matches in all competitions and are beginning to show the kind of form which made them surprise contenders for promotion in the Championship at the beginning of the season. They have scored thirteen goals in their last five games and have had no problem finding their way to the goal in this competition. Huddersfield have faced two League One sides in Port Vale and Rochdale in reaching the fifth round, securing 4-0 wins over both, with this being the first time they have reached this stage of the competition since 2013. Promotion will clearly be the goal for Wagner this season, although they certainly wouldn’t begrudge the chance to take City down a peg or two by eliminating them from the FA Cup.

Man City Preview

Manchester City appear to be back on track in the Premier League after winning their fourth game on the bounce in all competitions at Bournemouth. City were relatively comfortable throughout, keeping Bournemouth at arm's length with some impressive displays in midfield from Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in particular. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, although the first half was soured slightly after Gabriel Jesus went off injured. His replacement, Sergio Aguero, then saw his effort deflected in off the unfortunate Tyrone Mings and City put the game to bed and moved up to 2nd in the table, still eight points behind leaders Chelsea. Wins over teams such as West Ham, Swansea and Bournemouth are ultimately expected of Pep Guardiola at City, but this is surprisingly just the third time this season they have gone on a run of three wins in a row in the Premier League this season. Guardiola still believes the eight-point gap between themselves and Chelsea is simply too much to overturn and this is arguably their best opportunity to claim silverware this term. City have looked imperious in the FA Cup thus far, winning 5-0 away to West Ham and 3-0 at Crystal Palace as they look to win their third successive away win in this year’s competition.
