Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Fulham host Tottenham Hotspur at Craven Cottage on 19/02/17 in a London derby in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Tottenham were much below-par last time out, losing 2-0 away to Liverpool at Anfield. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Fulham Preview

Fulham won their second successive game by a 3-2 scoreline at Craven Cottage in midweek, as they beat Nottingham Forest to move to within six points of the Championship’s top six. They initially fell behind in the contest as ex-Fulham man Pajtim Kasami struck for the visitors in just the second minute of the game. However, the home side responded with two goals in three minutes on the half-hour mark with Tom Cairney and Lucas Piazon both getting on the scoresheet to send them in ahead at the break. Teenage forward Ben Brereton then increased his growing reputation by pulling Forest level two minutes in the second half, but it turned to be in vein as a Jack Hobbs own goal saw Fulham take maximum points. Slavisa Jokanovic’s men still have their eyes on a playoff place this term, having kept quietly consistent throughout much of the season. They will still be relishing the opportunity to test themselves against top-six Premier League opposition, having not done so since their relegation in 2014. After beating Hull emphatically 4-1 last time around, they know they have the capability to beat a side in the top-flight on their day, although this is set o be an ever greater task than the one undertaken before.

Tottenham Preview

Tottenham’s poor record away to sides in the top six continued at the weekend, as Liverpool took three points from Mauricio Pochettino’s men. The Reds came flying out of the blocks early on, taking a two-goal lead inside twenty minutes through Sadio Mane’s double. Mane was causing Spurs all kinds of problems, namely Ben Davies, who was left exposed with a lack of support against the Senegalese winger. A tangible response from Tottenham was not forthcoming, as Liverpool professionally closed the game out. The defeat was Spurs’ first in twelve matches in all competitions, with the gap between themselves and Chelsea now extended to ten points - which most people believe is now out of their reach. As such, their best opportunity of silverware this season will come in the Europa League and the FA Cup, with the time beginning to come where Pochettino is expected to bring trophies to White Hart Lane. He will now be expecting a response from his players after they failed to put in a sufficient performance against Liverpool last time out.

Fulham Team News

Tomas Kalas (hip) remains a doubt for Fulham, while Ryan Fredericks misses out against his former club through suspension. Tom Cairney will look to test himself against Premier League opposition after the club placed a £12m valuation on his head.

Tottenham Team News

Erik Lamela (hip) remains doubtful for Spurs, as are defenders Jan Vertonghen (ankle) and Danny Rose (knee) with knocks. The likes of Kieran Trippier, Kevin Wimmer and Harry Winks will all hope to get game time for the away side here.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Tottenham, despite the anticipated changes they’re expected to make, remain the favourites coming into this one and rightly so. I’m expecting this one to go in favour of the home side, although I can see Fulham getting on the scoresheet in the contest.
