Zenit St. Petersburg vs Celtic Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Zenit will look to overturn a one-goal deficit when they welcome Celtic at the Stadio Krestovskyi on Thursday night for the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie. Zenit lost 1-0 in Scotland last week, with the host finding the back of the net with just 12 minutes to go. However, Zenit put in a terrible display as they had just one shot on target. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Zenit have enjoyed an impressive run of form in their European home fixtures over the past few years, while Celtic have been terrible on the road. Celtic are undefeated in nine home games at the moment, scoring at least two goals in seven of these. Away from home, Celtic have only won two of their last six competitive trips, while losing two.

Zenit St. Petersburg Preview

Zenit were on a nine-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 1-0 defeat at Celtic. That was their first official fixture in 2018 and they now need to overturn a one-goal deficit in order to qualify for the next round. The good news is that Zenit are now back on home soil where they are unbeaten in nine games, winning eight in this term. In addition, the Russians have lost just once in their last 25 home games in the Europa League. They are now on a four-game winning streak in the Europa League at home, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Actually, Zenit have never lost on home soil in the Europa League, group stage to final, with the only exception being a 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the 2014/15 quarter-finals. The Russians have only conceded once in their three home victories during this season’s group stage. Emiliano Rigoni and Aleksandr Kokorin have been Zenit’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this Europa League campaign, as the pair bagged eleven goals and one assist between them.

Zenit St. Petersburg Team News

Victor Fayzulin is the only doubtful player for Zenit ahead of this clash.

Celtic Preview

Celtic did well to beat Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 in the first leg of this Europa League round of 32 tie, but only managed a nil-nil home draw against St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend. However, Celtic are all but guaranteed another domestic title as they sit comfortably at the top of the table, nine points clear of the 2nd-placed Rangers. The bad news is that Celtic’s recent away form haven’t been very good as they have only won two of their last six competitive trips. In addition, Celtic are winless in ten Europa League away fixtures at the moment, losing four in the process. Actually, Celtic have never won away from home in the Europa League, group stage to the final. The interesting fact is that Celtic have triumphed in 32 of the 45 UEFA competition ties in which they won the home first leg. Callum McGregor have netted just five goals throughout their Premiership campaign, but he did well to score the winner against Zenit last week. Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths are Celtic’s topscorers in the Premiership, but they have been pretty quiet in the Europa League.

Celtic Team News

Jonathan Hayes, Stuart Armstrong, Nir Biton, Marvin Compper, Dedryk Boyata and Craig Gordon are all missing through injury, but Patrick Roberts is back in training.
