Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Wolves were able to shock Manchester United by grabbing a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford during the weekend. The visitors had a positive start to the game but it was United who took the lead through Fred in the 18th minute. Wolves came back into the game only in the second half when Joao Moutinho finished well from the edge of the box. Wolves, though, failed to reach the EFL Cup fourth round after losing on penalties to Leicester City. Southampton’s recent trip to Anfield ended as a 3-0 loss to Liverpool. The Saints were unlucky to fall behind after Wesley Hoedt’s inadvertent own goal. Liverpool, though, capitalised with goals from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah before the break.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Southampton are heading for a second consecutive away defeat and Mark Hughes will be keen to arrest on the rot. Yet, it may be quite a difficult task with Wolves playing some excellent football of late. A team that has been able to get points off both Manchester clubs should not be discounted. Southampton’s lack of going forward makes me go with a win for Wolves.

The game is only likely to witness goals from Wolves, who have also not been scoring in bucket loads. Nuno’s team have not been clinical on a few occasions and this has resulted in the club managing a return of just six goals in as many games – a record also shared by Southampton. I would go with under 2.5 goals.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It would be hard to deny that Wolves have been one of the best-promoted teams in the 2018-19 campaign. It is one thing to be handed a large transfer kitty, but Nuno has been able to build on a successful Championship season. Crucially, Wolves play a brand of football that has been extremely pleasing on the eye. Rather than defend the way out of games against top teams, Wolves have been showing respect and confidence in equal measure. Raul Jimenez has been key for Wolves with the striker helping the club through his goals or build-up play. He has scored two goals this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Nuno has a fully fit squad for selection.

Southampton Preview

Mark Hughes was quite disappointed with his team’s heavy defeat against Liverpool, as he felt that Southampton came in with a decent performance that did not warrant such a result. Yet, the big problem for Southampton has been making an impact at the other end of the pitch. The club has come up with just six goals in the first six games of the campaign. However, the style of play has been dull and the club have to rely on loan stars like Danny Ings in order to get them anything out of the match. Unsurprisingly, the striker, who is on loan from Liverpool, tops the scoring charts at Southampton with three league goals.

Southampton Team News

Manolo Gabbiadini (hamstring) and Mohamed Elyounoussi (leg) are unavailable for the Saints.
