Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Sheffield United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening (17:30) game is live on SKYTV and features two Championship promotion hopefuls. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Wolves were in action last weekend when they travelled to Ipswich and came away with a 1-0 victory. The goalscorer on that occasion was Matt Doherty with a goal that allowed the Black Country to secure all three points.

Sheffield United played on Tuesday night and they lost at home to promotion rivals Aston Villa. The Blades were probably the stronger side but were undone by a Robert Snodgrass goal in the 90th minute.

The reverse fixture came in at the end of September at Bramall Lane and United won that one 2-0. Leon Clarke grabbed a brace on that occasion in a match that also saw the visitors have Conor Coady dismissed after 15 minutes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves as ever are favourites but they are giving other clubs some hope and the draw/Sheffield United double chance looks worth an interest. The Blades have gone to Derby and Villa in recent weeks and picked up a point while Wolves have lost to Forest and drawn with Sunderland at home recently.

James Wilson should do well in the Championship (he netted against Norwich on his penultimate start) and at double-figure odds looks worth an each-way interest in the first goalscorer market.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country outfit are slowing down a little with just one win in their last three league fixtures but are still 11 points clear. Benik Afobe was added to their forward line ahead of the transfer deadline.

At Molineux, they have lost two times this season though that did come last time at their own ground at the hands of Forest. Only Hull (30) have scored more home goals than the 28 Wanderers have netted.

None of the last four and just two of the last eight Wolves matches have seen both teams find the back of the net. Four of the last six goals they have scored have come from defenders (Douglas has two, Doherty and Bennett one each).

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts. Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have taken just five points from their last five fixtures and and they have dropped to seventh just outside the play-offs. They did their transfer business early bringing in Lee Evans, Ricky Holmes and Ryan Leonard while completing a loan deal for James Wilson.

Away from Bramall Lane, they are three unbeaten which includes draws at Derby and Villa and a victory over Norwich. In just two of their last 12 on the road have they failed to find the back of the net.

Sheffield United have tightened up in recent weeks and their last five Championship matches have featured just six goals in total. 42 of the 75 goals the Yorkshire outfit have been involved with the season have come in the first-half.

Sheffield United Team News

David Brooks (virus) and Kieron Freeman (dislocated kneecap) are doubts while Paul Coutts (broken leg) is out for the season.
