Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture sees two sides going well towards the top of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Wolves continued their impressive run at the top-of-the-table as they earned a 1-0 victory away to Sheffield Wednesday. A 34th minute Ruben Neves goal was enough to give them three points their performance just about deserved. Ipswich made it three victories from their last four as they defeated Reading 2-0 at Portman Road last time out. The Tractor Boys were fast out of the blocks taking the lead in the third minute through Callum Connolly (three in four) and then again through Joe Garner and that was where the scoring end. The two meetings between these sides last season both ended in goalless draw. In fact, each of the last five head-to-heads have ended all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves are a short price to win this game so you need to find another way to get involved if you want to back the hosts. I like them to win and the game to have under 2.5 goals as their last two victories have come by the same 1-0 scoreline. Ipswich are tough to break down and well-drilled while not scoring too many on their travels so this looks a sensible play. Matt Doherty was the man of the match against Sheffield Wednesday last time out and is given licence to get forward on the flank in a 3-4-3 formation and while he is not a prolific scorer his price here does not seem reflective of where he is positioned now and the increased opportunities that will bring.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It is now seven victories and one draw for Wolves who are four points clear at the top of the Championship table. Their toughest assignment over the holiday period is a trip to Bristol City while they have winnable games against Ipswich, Millwall and Brentford as they look to extend the gap at the top. At Molineux, they saw their winning run of six straight halted last time out as Sunderland battled to earn a point. That fixture marked the first time the Black Country outfit failed to net in front of their own fans this season. The last three Wolves matches have produced a total of just two goals and Wanderers have netted both. In their last eight fixtures the league leaders have scored an impressive ten goals in the first 30 minutes.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Carl Ikeme (cancer) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are long-term absentees.

Ipswich Town Preview

A run of three victories from their last four and just two defeats in eight has allowed Ipswich to keep pace with the top six and they sat eighth ahead of this round of fixtures. Over the festive period, they face two of the top four and Fulham and QPR which is not an easy set of matches. Away from Portman Road, they have struggled taking just eight points from their last nine though they did beat Derby on their penultimate road trip. Their last three on their travels have been low-scoring going under 2.5 goals and producing a total of just five goals. Just one of the last five has seen both teams find the back of the net while this is also the number that has gone over 2.5 goals. In their last three defeats the East Anglian outfit have been behind at half-time also.

Ipswich Town Team News

Tom Adeyemi (hamstring) and Tristan Nydam (hip) are doubts. Luke Hyam (knee) and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are out for another few months while Emyr Huws has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury.
