Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burton Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features the league leaders playing host to the side second bottom in the Championship.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Wolves come into the game on the back of a 3-0 victory at home to Reading in midweek.  Wanderers had Matt Doherty to thank as he grabbed a brace while Benik Afobe also weighed in with a goal.

Burton were also in action on Tuesday night but it was not as successful for them as they went down 2-0 away to Sheffield United. Albion can have few complaints about the result as they barely created a chance.

The reverse fixture came at the end of September at the Pirelli Stadium and that game ended in a comfortable 4-0 Wolves victory.  It was a team effort with a goal each from Diogo Jota, Romain Saiss, Ruben Vinagre and Leo Bonatini.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves are a short price to win this game so if you want to back them you need to find a way to enhance the price.  Given that Burton have blanked in their last four Wolves to win to nil could be a popular option or Wolves HT/Wolves FT has also been a popular route this season.

I think splitting your stakes across two correct scores makes sense and given Burton are struggling in front of goal I like the look of 2-0 and 3-0.  The latter has been the score in the last two wins for the Black Country outfit while the former has been the score in the last two Albion defeats.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country outfit have won just two of their last six which has seen their lead at the top cut to just three points.  Three of their next six come against teams in the bottom eight, the other three come against teams in the top six.

At Molineux, they are unbeaten in four winning three of these and have lost just two league home matches all season.  They have kept a clean sheet in just two of their last five in front of their own fans.

Each of the last three Wolves have played in the league and six of their last eight have gone over 2.5 goals.  No side has scored more first-half goals than the 34 they have netted this campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Diogo Jota (ankle), Bright Enobakhare (unknown), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts.  Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.

Burton Albion Preview

The Brewers have taken just one point form their last four fixtures and won just one of their last 11.  They now face a horrible run with back-to-back road trips to the top two and then a home fixture with sixth placed Middlesbrough.

Away from the Pirelli Stadium, they have lost three of their last five and conceded 12 goals in the process while netting four times.  Only Bolton (11) have scored a lower amount of goals on the road in the division than the 13 Burton have netted.

The last four Burton league games have produced a total of just five goals with Albion netting none of these.  Just 15% of the goals that they have scored this season have come in the opening thirty minutes.

Burton Albion Team News

Lucas Akins (hamstring), John Brayford and Ben Turner (both calf) are doubts while Willie Miller (knee) is a long-term absentee for the Brewers
