Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday (2nd) evening (19:45) fixture features two of the form teams in the English second-tier. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Wolves extended their lead at the top of the table last time out as they survived playing most of the game with ten men to defeat Bristol City 2-1. Barry Douglas and Ryan Bennett were the goalscorers for the Black Country outfit while Danny Batth was the player that was dismissed. Brentford made it three victories in a row as they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Griffin Park in their previous fixture. They were comfortably the better team and eased past the Owls thanks to a goal each from Lasse Vibe and Florian Jozefzoon. The reverse fixture came in August in London and it ended in a goalless draw. It put to an end a head-to-head record of eight fixtures which had not ended all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I was hoping that the Bees would be a better price here given the tough game Wolves had in midweek a few days ago. They can come to Molineux and cause problems but given they have lost at Sheffield United and Cardiff this season I wanted more from their odds in the match markets. I will take a little play on the visitors to win the second-half though as the home side could start to fade after a tough week of action. The home side have failed to score in the second -half of their last two at home and three of their last five so Brentford might be able to take advantage of tired legs here. I also recommend an anytime goalscorer bet on Lasse Vibe who has netted in six of his last five and five of the last nine sides to visit Molineux have scored at least once.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It is now 11 games unbeaten for Wolves in the Championship and they are ten points clear of second place. Just one of the next six they play is against a side in the top eight so that gap could be extended. At Molienux, they have won eight of their last ten with Bristol City and Sunderland the only sides to have claimed a point here in the last few months. The last two in front of their own fans have produced a total of just one goal. Wolves have both the best ranked attack in the division and the best ranked defence which shows how dominant they have been. They have been behind at half-time on just one occasion this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Danny Batth will miss the game through suspension following his red card against Bristol City. Carl Ikeme (cancer) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are long-term absentees.

Brentford Preview

It is three straight victories for the Bees, four games unbeaten and just one defeat in their last eight. This run has seen them climb into tenth place and after this game they have three straight against teams in the bottom-half. Away from Griffin Park, it has been a mixed bag of late with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five. Each of their last three on the road and five of their last seven have seen both teams score and gone over 2.5 goals. The 39 goals that Brentford have scored means they have the joint-fourth best attacking record in the division. Lasse Vibe has now scored four goals in his last three and six in the last five.

Brentford Team News

Henrik Dalsgaard (heel) and John Egan (head) are doubts while Rico Henry (knee) is a long-term absentee.
