Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Wolves were in action in the League Cup in midweek and needed extra-time before seeing off Bristol Rovers thanks to a Bright Enobakhare goal. In the league, they won 2-1 at the City Ground last weekend with a brace from Diogo Jota helping them see off Forest. Barnsley put in a spirited performance in midweek but still went out of the League Cup 1-0 at Tottenham. In the Championship, they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa in a game they struggled to create chances in. The away side won both meetings last season with the game at Oakwell ending 3-1 and the one at Molineux finishing 4-0 to the Tykes. Each of their last five battles has produced over 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves are strong favourites to win this game but are an unbackable price to do this. Given that four of their six home victories in all competitions this season have been 1-0 then I think combining them to win with under 2.5 goals looks a good option. It also makes sense to play the under 2.5 goals option alone as this has happened in four of six at Molineux this season while the Tykes three road trips have also gone under.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It has been a great start to the new season for Wolves who sit second with only goal-difference keeping them off the top spot. They are unbeaten in their last four taking eight points and have lost just one of their eight Championship games this campaign. At home, they have suffered one defeat which came against Cardiff, winning two and drawing one of the other three. Two of these four games have been 1-0 victories and this rises to four of six when looking at League Cup matches. Diogo Jota is their leading scorer with five league goals four of which have come in the last three. Around 53% of the goals they have scored have come in the 15 minutes before half-time or before the end of the game.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Helder Costa (ankle) is closing in on a return as is Carl Ikeme (hamstring) while Willy Boly (hamstring) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are out long-term.

Barnsley Preview

After seven games, it is seven points for the Tykes who sit in lowly 20th but do have a game in hand of most teams. Their good run of form that had seen two victories and one draw from the previous was brought to end with a comprehensive loss to Villa. On the road, it is just one point from three matches with a draw at Preston and defeats to Sheffield United and Bristol City. They have netted just two times in these fixtures and shipped five goals. Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Hedges are their leading league goalscorers with both having netted twice. 62.5% of the goals they have scored have come in the opening half with 50% between the 16th and 45th minute.
