Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday teatime (17:30) live SKY game features two promotion hopefuls in an action at Molineux. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Wolves were comfortable victors in their last game before the international break as they won 4-0 at Burton. They were 2-0 up after 11 minutes and the game was never in doubt with a goal each from Diogo Jota, Romain Saiss, Ruben Vinagre and Leo Bonatini. Aston Villa made it three straight victories with a narrow 1-0 success over bottom of the table Bolton. A Jonathan Kodjia penalty was the difference between the two sides in a game that also saw Neil Taylor dismissed at the end. The last time these two sides met at Molineux was last season in a game that the home side won 1-0 thanks to a Joe Mason goal. The game at Villa Park ended 1-1 with a penalty each from Jonathan Kodjia and Helder Costa.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Two promotion heavyweights meet here in what could be an entertaining live Saturday early evening game. It is hard to argue with the prices on offer which has Wolves favourites but does not discount Villa who are dangerous road opponents. A better bet is to swim against the tide that suggests the game will be low scoring and go for goals. Three of the last four at Molienux have gone over while Villa are the third highest road scorers in the division. Over 2.5 goals looks a smart bet play as does Yes in the both teams to score market while combining this is also an option for those looking for an extra juice on the price.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It has been a strong start to the season for the Black Country outfit who sat second going into the international break with 23 points from their opening 11 fixtures. They have won three and drawn one of their last four. At home, it is five played with three victories, one draw and a defeat to Cardiff. Three of their last four at their own ground have gone over 2.5 goals and have seen both teams find the back of the net. Their 19 goals netted this season has them down as the fourth best ranked attacking outfit in the league while conceding just 11 puts them in the top eight for defensive sides. They are strong starters and have been behind at half-time just once in the league.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Carl Ikeme and Willy Boly (both hamstring) will hope to be available after the break but Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) is out until January 2018.

Aston Villa Preview

It is now four straight victories for Villa and seven without defeat in the league and this has seen them climb to seventh place going into the international break. Their next five fixtures present a test as four come against sides expected to be challenging for promotion while the other is against local rivals Birmingham. On the road, it has been a mixed bag with two victories, one draw and two defeats though they have taken seven points from their last three on their travels. Four of their five on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals with the other producing two goals. They have the joint sixth best ranked attacked with 17 goals while their defence is also top six ranked with just ten shipped. If the table was decided on result at the interval then Villa would be top with ten goals netted and just one conceded before the break.

Aston Villa Team News

Neil Taylor will miss the game through suspension while the Midlands outfit will hope the break enables Andre Green (hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor (groin) and Henri Lansbury (knee) to return. The match might come too soon though for Mile Jedinak (groin), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (thigh) and certainly for Jack Grealish (hip).
