Wigan Athletic vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Wigan have lost back-to-back games the latest of which saw them go down to a 3-1 loss at Nottingham Forest. Josh Windass got their goal with the expected data thinking they were harshly treated.

QPR were in FA Cup action last weekend and they battled out a replay at Portsmouth in a game ending 1-1 with Nahki Wells getting their goal. In the league, they will be looking to bounce back from a 4-1 home loss to Preston with Matt Smith grabbing their consolation.

The reverse fixture came on August 25th and it was won 1-0 by the London side thanks to a Tomer Hemed goal. It means that the Rs have won each of their last three against the Latics and lost none of ten.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer here which make Wigan favourites as they are a solid home side while QPR are not a great road team. I find it tough to select the value here and as such will look to other markets.

Eight of the 14 the Rs have played on the road have been level going into the break and as the Latics have a few injuries going forward this might be a way into the game. In addition, look to oppose the match having an early goal which is set at 31:00.

Wigan Athletic Preview

The Latics are in the middle of a poor run of form having taken just four points from their previous nine. They sit in 20th place just two positions and five points above Reading who are 22nd.

At the DW Stadium, the Lancashire outfit beat Aston Villa last time here though had lost the three prior to that. Each of the last three and four of their last five in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals.

Wigan are struggling for goals having netted just six in their last nine in the league with three of these coming in the same fixture. Around 50% of the goals they have scored have come in the 30 minute spell prior to and just after the interval.

Wigan Athletic Team News

Anthony Pilkington (ankle) is a doubt while Gavin Massey, Nick Powell (both hamstring) and Antonee Robinson (ankle) are long-term absentees. Danny Fox, Leon Clarke and Beni Baningime could come into the squad after completing deadline day moves.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs are without a win in their last four in the Championship and have lost each of their last two. They have dropped to 14th through with just seven points between them and Derby in sixth place the play-offs are still an option.

Away from Loftus Road, the London team have won just one of their last seven though they have picked up a point at Villa and Stoke. Nahki Wells and Luke Freeman both have two in their last five on the road while Wells also has one in the Cup away from home.

QPR have seen three of their last five and nine of their last 12 in the division go over 2.5 goals. Three of their last four goals on the road have come before the half-time interval though none before the 25th minute.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Angel Rangel (thigh), Tomer Hemed (hernia) and Geoff Cameron (ankle) are doubts while Olamide Shodipo (thigh) is a long-term absentee.
