Wigan Athletic vs Bristol Rovers Match Prediction

By William Hall

Wigan welcome Bristol Rovers to The DW Stadium this weekend in League 1. With both sides coming into this one on decent form, it shapes up to be an entertaining encounter. Wigan come into this game off the back of their best performance of the season so far as they beat high flying Charlton Athletic 3-0 away from home. Bristol Rovers will be bitterly disappointed with how their game during the week panned out with Oldham snatching a late winner to see a point taken from Rovers, which would have been a fair result. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wigan have and always will be a tough team to beat when they are at the DW Stadium. They like to keep the ball for long periods of the game which always then gives them many chances. They have played just two games on home soil this season and have picked up four points with a 4-1 win over Bury, and a score draw with Portsmouth. They will see this as an excellent chance to get some more points on the board with Bristol Rovers tending to struggle away from home. However, although Wigan do well at home, they do tend to concede which makes that market look good this weekend.

In all five of their last home games, both teams have been able to hit the back of the net and in four of Bristol Rovers last five away games it has been the same. It is all but impossible to bring you guys any stats on head to head down to the fact the sides haven't met since the 2000/01 season.

Wigan Athletic Preview

Wigan have had a good start to the season after relegation from the Championship last season. As mentioned above, they come into this game off the back off their best performance and win of the season, beating Charlton 3-0 away from home to lift them up to 6th in League One. They got the lead just before half time to go into the break in the lead. It was an edgy 25 minutes before they got the second, but after that, there was only going to be one winner. Right at the end of the game, Sam Morsy made sure of the three points. Another performance like that this weekend and there is no doubt they will come out on top.

Bristol Rovers Preview

Bristol Rovers would have been frustrated to lose their last game so late on and will be looking for a reaction this weekend. It looked as if Rovers were out of the match in the 70th minute as they went 2-0 down, but a lot of good spirits saw them get it back to 2-2 in the 85th minute and many thought from there they would win it. But just three minutes later Oldham scored again to make it 3-2 which is how it stayed. Away from home in general Rovers tend to do ok, but if you put it down to just in League One, they do struggle, losing four of their last five on the road.
