Wigan Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Wigan have not won in their last five and they have fallen down the table while Blackburn have won just one in the same period, and could find themselves doing the same shortly.

These two were promoted together from League One last season, and with both of them having plenty of experience both in the Championship and the Premier League, expectations were high. They were expected to survive comfortably and the way they started suggested that, however things have gone a little downhill since.

Wigan have not won any of their last five games, picking up just one point in that spell and that was on Saturday when they drew with relegation candidates Reading. They have shown little over the past few games, and sit just four points ahead of the bottom three.

Blackburn have won just one of their last five, and that victory along with two draws has kept them in mid-table for now. They are in 11th but are in danger of slipping down the table unless they win on a more regular basis. They are five points ahead of Wigan going into this one, and would love to add a further three to that to create a nice cushion.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Neither team will want to lose this game, and being a bit of a local derby, expect it to be played with plenty of emotion. While both teams could really do with the three points, especially Wigan, they may both have to settle for one. That wouldn’t be the end of the world for either, but they will have to find a way to win soon.

Blackburn have scored five goals in their last five games, and Wigan have scored just four in the same period. Neither team is prolific in front of goal, and that is a big part of why they are struggling right now, so backing minimal goals in this one is the way forward.

Wigan Athletic Preview

A run of five games without a win has come at the wrong time for Wigan, and they need to get out of this run as soon as possible. They are inching closer to the bottom three with every week that passes, but the good news for them is that many teams are involved at the bottom.

A couple of wins would make all the difference to Wigan, and push them right back up into mid-table, that has to be the aim before we head into the busy Christmas period.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Blackburn are doing ok so far, and sit mid-table but there is a worry that they could head the same way as Wigan. They have only won one of their last five games, and need to continue to pick up points to keep ahead of those below them.

There is no doubt that Blackburn are capable of staying in mid-table, but they have to be wary and this looks to be an important part of the season for them.
