West Ham United vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

West Ham United slipped deeper into relegation worries after a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Burnley at London Stadium. After creating some good chances in the first half, David Moyes saw his team collapse in the second. Ashley Barnes broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, while a late brace from Chris Wood provided a comprehensive win for the visitors. Southampton were able to manage a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Mark Hughes’ arrival provided an instant reaction with Pierre Hojbjerg breaking the deadlock in the half, while Cedric Soares confirmed the win with a late goal.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Saints managed a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Slaven Bilic’s West Ham in the recent visit to the London Stadium. After conceding three against Burnley, David Moyes will be keen to set his team up in a defensive fashion. Apart from the loss against Burnley, West Ham have not done badly at the London Stadium after suffering just one loss in the last nine. Even with Hughes in the dugout, West Ham should have enough to get a victory.

West Ham have managed only one clean sheet in the last two league encounters, while the return of Charlie Austin and other key players make Southampton stronger than in recent weeks. West Ham’s defence is low on confidence with the team shipping a whopping 15 goals in the last six matches. I see great value in choosing both teams to score.

West Ham United Preview

The recent slump in form comes at a difficult time for David Moyes, as he can sense the fans turning against the team. The collapse against Burnley produced a strong reaction from the West Ham faithful and it will take a mightily impressive performance in order to win them back. The London Stadium may hold key towards West Ham’s survival bid, as the hammers are up against Southampton and Stoke City in the next two home matches. However, they are up against London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the next two away games.

West Ham United Team News

Manuel Lanzini (knee), James Collins (hamstring), and Cheikhou Kouyate (flu) are doubtful for the game, while Sam Byram (ankle), Winston Reid (knee), Andy Carroll (ankle), and Pedro Mba Obiang (ligament) are unavailable due to injuries.

Southampton Preview

The win over League One outfit Wigan may not sound impressive on paper, but Mark Hughes will be delighted to get an away victory over a team flying high in the third division of English football. Southampton have had a difficult run of late and the horrendous performance against Newcastle will long live in the memory of fans. It happens to be one of the worst performances of Southampton this season, but Hughes can use the win over Wigan as a motivation for the upcoming game. Even now, the lack of a strong goalscoring threat remains the issue but the return of Charlie Austin can help overcome this problem.

Southampton Team News

Ryan Bertrand is the only Saints player likely to miss out on the game due to a back injury.
