West Ham United vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

West Ham were able to snatch a close fought 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium before the international break. Alex Prichard broke the deadlock after just six minutes and West Ham had to wait until the 74th minute in order to score the equaliser through Felipe Anderson. Manchester City made it seven wins on the bounce after a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. David Silva and Sergio Aguero provided a substantial lead for City before Anthony Martial’s penalty threatened a comeback. However, Ilkay Gundogan applied the finishing touch to a move that involved 44 passes in the 86th minute to hand City with deserved three points.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City have been able to claim handsome victories in the last three trips to face West Ham. There is little expectation of a deviation given that City are so strong that retaining the ball. Manchester United struggled with very low possession numbers in the recent derby and West Ham would actually regress on this front. My prediction is to witness over 2.5 goals from City.

West Ham have players who can hurt City on the counter-attack. The pace of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic will be key for Pellegrini’s men. City are not vulnerable to conceding goals and they have kept just one clean sheet in the last three Premier League games. I would opt for both teams to score.

West Ham United Preview

West Ham have done a commendable job to remain in the hunt for a top 10 position even whilst missing a fair chunk of the first-team. Manuel Pellegrini is starting to get some of his key players back from long-term injuries, while the form of Felipe Anderson will also be a huge boost to the Hammers. However, they still have to pick up a lot more victories than they have done in recent weeks. The club have been unable to convert great chances into goals, but there are signs of change.

West Ham United Team News

Andriy Yarmolenko (Achilles tendon), Carlos Sanchez (ligament), Jack Wilshere (ankle), Manuel Lanzini (cruciate ligament), Winston Reid (ligament), Ryan Fredericks (shin), and Xande Costa (hamstring) are unavailable due to injuries. Robert Snodgrass is the only player missing due to suspension.

Manchester City Preview

Pep Guardiola has been able to assemble an impressive team in the 2018-19 campaign even after having won the Premier League in comfortable fashion last season. City have very few weaknesses and they have been able to hide them extremely well with killer passing abilities. City need to hold to this momentum during the crucial festive period when a number of games are lined up. Even if Guardiola decides to rotate his squad after the international break, City should have a lot more in the locker than the opposition.

Manchester City Team News

Nicolas Otamendi (Achilles tendon), Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy (meniscus), Claudio Bravo (Achilles tendon), and Kevin De Bruyne (knee) are unavailable for City.
