West Ham United vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

West Ham picked up their biggest away win of the campaign after a 3-0 success over Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Javier Hernandez provided the breakthrough after 11 minutes, but it was his second goal in the 63rd minute that ended any resistance from the home team. A late goal from the impressive Felipe Anderson provided a glossy look to the score. Cardiff City picked up a second consecutive win at home as they beat Wolves 2-1 during the weekend. Matt Doherty scored from a corner to put the visitors in front, but a remarkable second-half comeback – through Aaron Gunnarsson and Junior Hoilett – secured back-to-back home wins for Cardiff.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

An away match is Cardiff’s Achilles heel with the team losing four in the bounce. Surprisingly, West Ham are not a strong pick for a victory at the London Stadium after the team has only averaged a point so far in home matches. Yet, there have been two wins for West Ham in the last four games at the London Stadium. West Ham have traditionally done exceedingly well against Cardiff and their recent form makes me go with a win for the home team.

Felipe Anderson has been running the show at West Ham over the last few weeks. He has been able to get goals in three out of his last four appearances for the Hammers. Despite playing on the left side of the offence, the Brazilian has been able to demonstrate a keen eye for goal. I would back Anderson to score anytime in the game.

West Ham United Preview

Manuel Pellegrini still has to improve West Ham on a number of fronts, but the offensive display of the Hammers rightly drew praise from opposition manager Rafa Benitez after the weekend’s results. The presence of players like Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic may help push West Ham to greater successes in the coming weeks, but the club are yet to release their full potential. Even after spending a substantial sum of money, West Ham still find themselves losing 50% of the league matches they have played. However, the form of those players has been getting better with every week while they are also starting to get a great understanding up front. Anderson and Arnautovic are the top scorers with five goals each.

West Ham United Team News

Manuel Lanzini (cruciate ligament), Ryan Fredericks (shin), Winston Reid (ligament), Carlos Sanchez (ligament), and Andriy Yarmolenko (Achilles tendon) are unavailable for West Ham.

Cardiff City Preview

Cardiff City are making full use of their home matches and the club have jumped out of the bottom three as a result of good results on Welsh soil. Cardiff have profited immensely since Gunnarsson came back from injury and it is not a surprise that his presence has coincided with a much better defensive performances from the Welsh team. Cardiff’s strength at the back has allowed them to take more chances going forward and the team has scored two goals in the last two home matches.

Cardiff City Team News

Ashley Richards (hamstring) and Kenneth Zohore (calf) are unavailable for Cardiff.
