West Ham United vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Ham United face Brighton and Hove Albion at the London Stadium on 20/10/17 as both sides look to secure a victory which would take them into the top half of the table. West Ham conceded late to draw 1-1 away to Burnley last weekend, while Brighton’s contest followed a similar script as they and Everton also played out a 1-1 draw. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Ham showed plenty of fight and character before ultimately conceding away to Burnley last weekend and have looked better at home this season. Combine that with Brighton’s poor away record, and the hosts should have enough for the three points here.

West Ham United Preview

Slaven Bilic may have been beginning to believe his team was about to secure a huge result for his job security before eventually conceding late on at Burnley last weekend. Bilic is one of the most under-pressure managers in the Premier League at this moment in time, but his team got off to the perfect start when Michail Antonio pounced on a simple punt forward from Joe Hart to give his team the lead after 20 minutes. However, the momentum shifted significantly when Andy Carroll was shown a red card for two yellow cards, allowing Burnley to apply pressure that eventually told when Chris Wood headed in Burnley’s equaliser five minutes from time. As such, the chance to move up to 11th in the Premier League table was denied to the Hammers, who now come into this game in 15th, one place below Brighton and Hove Albion on goal difference, with both sides now sat on eight points. For all of their defensive worries, West Ham have actually kept five clean sheets in their last seven Premier League games, starting this season with two wins from three at the London Stadium. Defeat here, though, could see Bilic’s men slide into the bottom three should other sides beneath them in the table pick up desirable results.

West Ham United Team News

Andy Carroll serves the first of his two-match suspension this weekend, with James Collins (ankle) ruled out through injury.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Brighton joined West Ham in being denied late on in the Premier League last weekend, after Everton broke fans hearts with a 90th minute equaliser at the Amex Stadium. It appeared for the world as if Brighton would be the side who struck the decisive late goal in the contest as Anthony Knockaert netted his first goal of the season eight minutes from time. Everton had performed well below par once again on the south coast, but were gifted a golden chance to equalise when Bruno gave away a penalty after fouling Dominic Calvert-Lewin, resulting in Wayne Rooney converting a last minute equaliser for Ronald Koeman’s side. How important that result may prove to be will ultimately become evident at the end of the season, after dropping two potentially crucial points. The task is now to pick themselves up and respond in a positive manner, although their early season away form suggests that will be easier said than done. The Seagulls have drawn one and lost three of their four away Premier League outings so far this term, scoring just once in the process as they face a side who only Spurs have defeated at home.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Tomer Hemed is banned and misses out for Brighton here. Steve Sidwell (back) is ruled out, with Shane Duffy (groin) also doubtful.
