West Ham United vs AFC Bournemouth Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Ham United face Bournemouth at the London Stadium on 20/01/18 after both sides picked up three points last weekend. West Ham beat Shrewsbury 1-0 in the FA Cup in midweek, while Bournemouth defeated Arsenal 2-1 last time out. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both of these sides will be feeling confident after recent positive results, West Ham in particular who have seen their season turned on its head by David Moyes. I’m expecting a home win, in what should be an open encounter.

West Ham United Preview

West Ham booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup after a rotated side saw off League One Shrewsbury 1-0 at the London Stadium. Having failed to net past the Shrews following 180 minutes of football, young defender Reece Burke scored eight minutes from the end of extra time to finally break past their opponents. The victory helped extend the Hammers’ unbeaten stretch to six games in all competitions, as well as adding to an impressive 4-1 win at Huddersfield last weekend. Both Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic were excellent in the win at the John Smith’s Stadium, having seen their form rejuvenated since the appointment of Moyes, seeing their form sky-rocket from the start of the season. Arnautovic in particular has shown great improvement, now looking to be worth the £20m investment splashed on him last summer. Moyes became only the fourth manager to win 200 Premier League games last weekend in Yorkshire, joining an illustrious group in Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp in doing so. Losing just one of their last five at home, the Hammers’ recent surge has undoubtedly been aided by more consistent performances at the London Stadium.

West Ham United Team News

Michail Antonio and Winston Reid are both doubts with groin injuries, while Jose Fonte (ankle) is ruled out.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Arsenal’s misery was further compounded at the Vitality Stadium last weekend, as Bournemouth’s excellent fightback saw them secure a vital 2-1 win over the Gunners. Hector Bellerin opened the scoring for the away side seven minutes into the second half, but a strong response from the Cherries soon followed. Callum Wilson capitalised on hesitancy in the Arsenal backline to poke Bournemouth level, before Jordon Ibe completed the four-minute turnaround with a low drive in the 74th minute. The win over Arsenal moved Bournemouth up to 13th in the Premier League table, providing a huge boost after falling as far as 16th in recent weeks. Bournemouth have enjoyed some exciting contests with West Ham in recent times, with their previous meeting ending in a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Vitality Stadium, while they also came out on top in a 3-2 result last season. Unbeaten in their last four in the Premier League, Bournemouth have responded well since losing 4-0 away to Manchester City before Christmas, though their methods have been particularly aggressive. Scoring nine goals in the four games since, while also conceding seven, it’s unlikely they will sway from their open brand of football here.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Tyrone Mings (back) and Jermain Defoe (ankle) remain missing. Junior Stanislas and Josh King will both have their respective hamstring injuries assessed.
