West Bromwich Albion vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. West Brom suffered their second defeat of the season in their last league game going down 1-0 at Middlesbrough. On Tuesday, they were in League Cup action when they played host to Mansfield and they won that one 2-1. Stoke picked up their first league season on Saturday seeing off Hull 2-0 thanks to a goal from James McClean and an own-goal. In the League Cup, they hosted Huddersfield on Tuesday night and defeated them 2-0. The two meetings between these sides last season in the Premier League saw Stoke win 3-1 at their ground and it end 1-1 at the Hawthorns. Joe Allen has netted in two of their last four clashes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I was surprised to see the prices on offer between the two teams as I feel there is little to choose between the pair. It is true Stoke have started well but they did beat Hull last weekend and although they are not firing yet have as much firepower at their disposal as the Baggies and I like them and the draw in the double chance market. I don’t see West Brom failing to score so I think taking the Potters to go over 1.5 team goals also looks a sensible investment.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

It has been a mixed start to the season for the Baggies with two victories, one draw and two defeats. They sit in 11th place with seven points while the expected goals data has them in ninth. At the Hawthorns, they have won one and lost one with these matches seeing both sides netting. These two games have been high-scoring and have produced a total of 11 goals with eight for the Midlands outfit. Four of the five West Brom have played in the Championship this season have seen both teams net. Only Leeds (14) have scored more than the (13) they have scored with Jay Rodriguez netting four and three for Matt Phillips.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Nacer Chadli (hamstring) is closing in on a return.

Stoke City Preview

The Potters have made a poor start to the season with just one victory, two draws and two defeats from their opening five fixtures. They sit in 17th place, though the expected goals data has them in 19th. Away from the Bet365 Stadium, they have drawn one and lost one of their two and have won just one all year. Both teams have netted and over 2.5 goals have been scored both their road ties in 2018/19. Stoke have scored only six goals this campaign with Benik Afobe (two) the only player to have netted more than once. They are having problems at the back with the joint-fourth worst defensive record having conceded nine times.

Stoke City Team News

Tom Ince (hamstring) is a doubt while Sam Clucas and Ibrahim Afellay (both knee) are long-term absentees.
