West Bromwich Albion vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Bromwich Albion host Stoke City at The Hawthorns on 27/08/17 after both teams picked up three points at the weekend. West Brom walked away from Burnley with their second 1-0 win of the season last time out, while Stoke beat Arsenal at home by the same scoreline. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Tony Pulis’ side have continued to look an organised defensive unit this term, keeping two clean sheets alongside their two victories thus far. I’m expecting them to pick up the victory here and to keep another clean sheet in doing so.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Tony Pulis can’t have asked for too much more from his side in the opening weeks of the season in terms of solidity, with his team keeping two clean sheets from two, this time against Chelsea conquerors Burnley. Hal Robson-Kanu was the eventual hero for the Baggies, coming from the bench to score his first goal of the season with nineteen minutes remaining. However, he was then sent off with just over twelve minutes remaining, leaving the side to see out the game in the closing minutes with ten men and successfully did so without allowing the Clarets back into the game. Gareth Barry made his debut for West Brom on Saturday and it appears he will have no issue settling into this side and providing a solid head to replace Darren Fletcher - who makes his first return to The Hawthorns this weekend. The Baggies ended last season with four successive 1-0 home defeats, so getting off the mark with a victory in their first home game this term will have been a relief to Pulis and the rest of his squad. Jonny Evans is unlikely to feature once again for City as he continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Hal Robson-Kanu is suspended for the Baggies following his red card last time out. Gareth McAuley (thigh), Claudio Yacob (hamstring) and James Morrison (knee) remain doubtful due to injury.

Stoke City Preview

Stoke City have - more often than not - enjoyed playing against Arsenal at home, and they were able to cause a headache for Arsene Wenger once again at the weekend, beating the Gunners 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium. Mark Hughes has been tipped by many as the first manager to lose his job this season, but he had no issue getting a tune out of his players last time out and it was one of his new signings who won the game for them. Spaniard Jese broke onto a pass from Saido Berahino before calmly slotting the ball past Petr Cech with the quality of a player who spent nine years at Real Madrid. When Alexandre Lacazette’s goal was ruled out for offside, there was the feeling that this was to be Stoke’s day, as they held on for their first three points for the season. In many ways, this was vengeance for a heavy defeat last term, after Arsenal beat the Potters 4-1 at the Bet365 Stadium last season. This fixture presents another opportunity to avenge a defeat from last term, having lost 1-0 to the Baggies at The Hawthorns in February.

Stoke City Team News

Xherdan Shaqiri could shake off the hamstring problem which forced a 25th minute substitute against Arsenal to feature here. Stephen Ireland remains absent as he continues to recover from a broken leg.
