West Bromwich Albion vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the promotion mix as fourth hosts fifth in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

West Brom made it four unbeaten in all competitions last weekend as they battled out a replay with a goalless draw at Brighton. In the league, they last played on the 21st where they won 2-0 at Bolton with a goal each from Jay Rodriguez and Sam Field.

Middlesbrough stretched their unbeaten run to six in all competitions but will have been disappointed to be held at home to Newport in the FA Cup despite having taken the lead through Daniel Ayala. In the Championship, they last played on the 19th which was also a 1-1 home draw with Jordan Hugill netting late to earn a point against Millwall.

The reverse fixture came on August 24th with Daniel Ayala getting the goal which earned the Teesiders all three points. It put to an end a head-to-head record with the Baggies of eight without a victory.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The draw looks the sensible solution here given this has happened in four of the last five at the Hawthorns and six times for Middlesbrough this season on the road.  I also would take the game to finish all-square and both teams to score. The Teesiders have scored at least once in nine of their last ten on the road while only Aston Villa (34) have scored more home goals than West Brom this season (33).

West Bromwich Albion Preview

The Baggies are on a good run of form with just one defeat from their previous 12 through they have won just one of their last four. They sit in fourth place four behind Norwich in second and three above their opponents here.

At the Hawthorns, the Black Country outfit are unbeaten in the last seven in the league through four of the last five have finished all-square. Eight of the last nine at their place have seen both teams score.

West Brom have seen exactly two or three goals netted in each of their last five in the Championship. Around two-thirds (66%) of their goals this season have come in the second-half.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Chris Brunt, James Morrison (both calf) and Matt Phillips (ankle) are doubts. Jacob Murphy could come into the side after signing a loan deal.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders are unbeaten in their last four in the Championship through they have won just three of their last ten. They sit in fifth place three behind their opponents here and just three points above the side in seventh.

Away from the Riverside, the North-Eastern side have been strong losing just one of their last ten and two all season. They have scored at least once in each of their last six on the road and nine of their last ten.

Middlesbrough have seen just one of their last six league fixtures go over 2.5 goals and just once this season have they gone over 3.5. Over 55% of their goals this campaign have come after the break with 25% in the final 15 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Sam McQueen (cruciate) is their only absentee ahead of this fixture.
