West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday early evening (17:30) fixture is live on Sky Sports and features two promotion hopefuls doing battle. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

West Brom are now four without a win following a disappointing 1-0 road loss at Hull last weekend. The Baggies can have few complaints about the result as the Tigers were the better side.

Leeds stretched their unbeaten run to three and moved back top of the table with a 2-1 victory at Wigan on Sunday. Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe got the goals to give United a deserved three points.

These two sides have not met since the 2006/07 season so it is hard to read much into their head-to-head record. For what it is worth the Baggies have won each of their last three meetings and lost none of four.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Leeds look the bet here against a West Brom side winless in four and looking short of confidence. United have won four of their eight on the road this season (including two of their last three) and given what happened last time the Baggies met a good side (Derby) at home (they lost 4-1) the visitors looks a great call.

Given the leaky nature of the hosts defence you could take your pick of goalscorer options for the Yorkshire outfit between Kemar Roofe, Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez and with the latter going off the biggest anytime scorer price he is my selection.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

After a great start to the season the Baggies have tailed off picking up just one point from their last four. The one time short-price favourites to win the division have now dropped to seventh while the expected goals data has them in 11th.

At the Hawthorns, they are without a win in their last two but had won the five prior to those. Both teams to score has happened in seven of the last eight at home for the Black Country outfit.

If the table was settled on scorelines after 45 minutes then West Brom would be as low as 19th only being ahead three times going into the interval. Just nine of their 33 goals have come before half-time.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Chris Brunt (unknown), Dwight Gayle, Gareth Barry (both calf) and Kieran Gibbs (hip) are doubts. Kyle Bartley is available following a suspension.

Leeds United Preview

The Whites are unbeaten in three and have lost just one of their last seven a run that has allowed them to return to the top of the table. The expected goals data suggests this is where United deserve to be at the head of the Championship.

Away from Elland Road, they have lost just once this season and no side has won more than the four on the road they have done. The Yorkshire outfit are the top road scorers in the division with 15 goals.

Leeds would be down in eighth if the table just took into account half-time scores as eight of their 16 have been level at the break. Eight of the 13 they have conceded though have come before the interval.

Leeds United Team News

Gaetano Berardi, Barry Douglas (both hamstring) and Conor Shaughnessy (muscle strain) are doubts while Patrick Bamford (knee) and Izzy Brown (unknown) are long-term absentees.
