West Bromwich Albion vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Bromwich Albion welcome Crystal Palace to The Hawthorns on 02/12/17 as the congested month of December commences. West Brom drew 2-2 at home to Newcastle United midweek, whilst Crystal Palace were involved in a goalless draw with rivals Brighton. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Brom come into this game without a win in three months, with Alan Pardew still yet to be appointed as manager. Crystal Palace meanwhile picked up their first away point of the season in the week and I’m expecting them to get another one here.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

West Bromwich Albion simply can’t buy a win at this moment in time - even when they are 2-0 ahead - after Newcastle United fought back to secure a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns in midweek. Looking at the personnel on display, it was expected to be somewhat of a tense game, though caretaker boss Gary Megson saw his team go in ahead at the break thanks to Hal Robson-Kanu, with midfielder Sam Field doubling their lead ten minutes into the second half. However, the youngster’s first senior goal wasn’t to come in a win for the Baggies, as Ciaran Clark pulled one back just three minutes after Field’s effort before a Jonny Evans own goal ensured Rafa Benitez’s men would return to the north east with a point in tact. That now takes West Brom’s winless run to 13 games on the bounce in all competitions, last tasting victory on August 22 in a 3-1 win away to Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup. It is quite amazing how West Brom have managed to avoid slipping into the bottom three during that time, though that could still happen this weekend if they fall to yet another defeat, now finding themselves just one place outside of the relegation zone in 17th. Alan Pardew has a huge job on his hands with West Brom as he looks to inject some urgency and potency into a side severely lacking in confidence and a winning mentality.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Craig Dawson (knee), James Morrison (achilles) and Nacer Chadli (thigh) are all missing for West Brom. Chris Brunt (calf) is a doubt.

Crystal Palace Preview

Roy Hodgson will have been delighted with his side’s performance in midweek after they kept their first away clean sheet of the season and, with it, took their first point on the road after drawing 0-0 with rivals Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday night. Naturally, both teams took a cautious approach to this game, with neither wanting to lose this first meeting in the top flight in 36 years. Christian Benteke returned but posed little threat along with the rest of the Palace side, but that wasn’t too much of a concern for Hodgson due to the organised nature of the Palace defence. There’s no doubt the former England manager has made Palace more difficult to beat in recent weeks, having lost just once in their last five in the Premier League. That has become even more prevalent at home, winning two and drawing two of their previous four games at Selhurst Park and they will now look to use Tuesday’s result as a catalyst for improvement away from home. Palace are still yet to score away from home in the Premier League, taking just a point from a possible 21, but are still only three points shy of reaching safety as Hodgson makes his first return to West Brom since leaving to take the England job in 2012.

Crystal Palace Team News

Connor Wickham (cruciate ligament) is ruled out once again, while Chung-Yong Lee (hamstring) is also unlikely to feature.
