West Bromwich Albion vs Chelsea Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Bromwich Albion face Chelsea at The Hawthorns on 18/11/17 as Tony Pulis’ men look to end their winless streak against the reigning Premier League champions. West Brom lost 1-0 to Huddersfield Town in their last outing, while Chelsea were 1-0 winners over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Brom are in dismal form at present, lacking in ideas up front which certainly won’t help their cause against a Chelsea team that have kept back-to-back clean sheets in their previous two wins. I’m going for a Chelsea win and could see them making it three consecutive clean sheets in the process.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Tony Pulis’ brand of football appears to finally be wearing on West Brom supporters after another toothless attacking display saw the Baggies fall to a 1-0 defeat away to Huddersfield Town. Lining up with a 3-5-2 formation, West Brom started with eight prominently defensively-minded players, leaving Hal Robson-Kanu and Jay Rodriguez as the only recognised attacking options. They were ultimately defeated by a piece of magic from the Terriers, as winger Rajiv van La Parra found the top corner from 25 yards out right on the stroke of half-time. Even a red card to Huddersfield defender Christopher Schindler couldn’t aid West Brom in their cause to pick up the three points, as Huddersfield held out to move into the top half of the Premier League table. The Baggies meanwhile are now just a point above the relegation zone, as Pulis looks to avoid the first Premier League relegation of his career. With no wins in their last ten games, they are desperately out of form at this moment in time, losing their last three in a row which has really put the pressure on Pulis, who is second-favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his club. However, a win against the reigning champions would give a huge boost for the club and potentially give the manager extra time to help get them out of their current predicament.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) are both ruled out for West Brom this weekend.

Chelsea Preview

Following their Champions League nightmare in Rome, Chelsea responded in perfect fashion as they defeated Manchester United 1-0 at home to move to within a point of Jose Mourinho’s side. In what was a predictably cagey affair, neither side created a real glut of chances but Chelsea’s goal came from a familiar source in a familiar method. Cesar Azpilicueta crossed for Alvaro Morata, as the latter excellently headed past David de Gea in what proved to be the fifth occasion this season in which the Spaniards have combined, allowing the striker to score his seventh goal of the season. As a result, Chelsea still sit 4th in the Premier League table, just a point behind both United and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of them, while Manchester City remain nine points clear of the champions. Antonio Conte’s men have responded well to their back-to-back defeats to City and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, winning three in a row since as they look to get their title defence back on track. Though they may not yet consider this season a success at present, they are only three points worse off than they were at this stage last season, highlighting just how much football there still is to play. Now returning to the ground where they won the Premier League title, Conte will hope his side can inflict more misery on this West Brom team.

Chelsea Team News

Gary Cahill (back), Victor Moses (hamstring) Tiemoue Bakayoko (muscle), Eden Hazard (knock) and Michy Batshuayi (foot) will all be assessed before this clash.
