West Bromwich Albion vs AFC Bournemouth Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

West Bromwich Albion host Bournemouth at The Hawthorns on 12/08/17 in a clash between two sides who will be targeting another top-ten finish this season. West Brom came out on top in this fixture last season, winning 2-1, however Bournemouth had a victory of their own after winning 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

These two sides finished last season with just a point between them and look evenly-matched once again this time around. Bournemouth have arguably had the better transfer window but the Baggies have home advantage on their side, and I’m expecting there to be nothing to separate the two sides. Score draw.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Tony Pulis will still probably be struggling to comprehend how his side failed to finish 8th last season, after occupying the spot for most of the campaign before a late drop-off of form cost them dearly. In terms of new arrivals, £15m Jay Rodriguez will carry the highest expectations to bolster their attack, in what has otherwise been a relatively underwhelming summer for the Baggies, who lost captain Darren Fletcher on a free to Stoke City. Many of the clubs in and around West Brom have strengthened significantly over the summer, making the task of finishing in the top half once again all the more difficult. Pre-season results should often be taken with a pinch of salt, but their results hardly made for positive reading for Baggies fans. West Brom won just two of their eight friendlies during the off-season and lost twice against English opposition in the Premier League Asia Trophy in West Brom and Crystal Palace.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

West Brom have a number of injury concerns in the squad, with Gareth McAuley (thigh), Jonny Evans (hamstring), Chris Brunt (calf), James Morrison (knee) and Nacer Chadli (calf) all hoping to shake off knocks to be involved in the game.

AFC Bournemouth Preview

For all the clubs in the Premier League, Bournemouth have arguably had one of the most successful transfer windows after strengthening their first XI with the signings of Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe. Quality over quantity appears to have been the message from boss Eddie Howe, who achieved a 9th-placed finish last season in just their second year of Premier League football. Pre-season proved to be relatively successful for the Cherries too, who lost just one game, a 1-0 loss at home to La Liga side Valencia. Bournemouth’s away form last season was far from ideal, managing just three wins on the road and lost a total of ten of their trips away from home. The added competition for places in the squad will only help further raise expectation levels this time around and Bournemouth themselves will be expecting to enjoy a competitive season once again.

AFC Bournemouth Team News

Junior Stanislas (hernia) and Callum Wilson (cruciate ligament) are still recovering from injuries sustained last season. New signings Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe will all hope to make their second debuts for the club, having all spent loan spells at the Vitality previously in their career.
