Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Watford welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Vicarage Road on 02/12/17 as both sides look to bounce back from defeats on Tuesday night. Watford were defeated 4-2 by Manchester United last time out, while Tottenham fell to a 2-1 loss away to Leicester City. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Watford will have expended a lot of energy in their defeat to Manchester United last time out and are set to face a Tottenham side who have generally responded well to difficult spells under Mauricio Pochettino. With that in mind, I’m going for a Spurs win.

Watford Preview

Watford found themselves unable to live with the relentless nature of Manchester United’s first-half performance on Tuesday night, as Jose Mourinho’s men came away with a 4-2 win at Vicarage Road. Former Watford man Ashley Young scored twice in the space of six minutes to put United 2-0 ahead, the second coming via a stunning free-kick, before Anthony Martial coolly converted the third. Troy Deeney and Abdoulaye Doucoure both scored late on in the second half to put Jose Mourinho on the edge of his seat momentarily, only for Jesse Lingard to put the game beyond doubt four minutes from time. With that result, Marco Silva’s side were unable to build on their back-to-back victories prior to the visit of United, and leaves their home form with plenty of room for improvement. Silva’s side have won just two of their seven games at Vicarage Road in the Premier League so far this season, though they both came against London clubs in Arsenal and West Ham and will be looking to take advantage of a Tottenham team whose confidence is questionable at present. However, they haven’t won in any of their last 11 meetings with Spurs, last winning against them in a League Cup tie in 1994, with their last league win coming in 1987.

Watford Team News

Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah and Isaac Success are all missing through knee problems. Younes Kaboul (hamstring) is unlikely to face his former side.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of challenging for the Premier League title appear to be all but over after they lost 2-1 away to Leicester City last time out. Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for Leicester with a classy, deft finish over Hugo Lloris, chipping the Frenchman on the volley from Marc Albrighton’s clipped pass. Spurs were on the receiving end of another classy finish before half-time, this time Riyad Mahrez finding the back of the net with a rocket of an effort into the top corner. Harry Kane’s clinical finish brought them back into the game but Leicester held on for an important win for Claude Puel’s side. Meanwhile, Spurs find themselves in their most difficult slump of the season so far, having now just won one of their last five Premier League games, scoring only three goals during that spell - two of which have come from Kane. However, it’s worth remembering this team went into the month of December last season with just one win in six league games and followed it up with a run of two defeats in their last 22 league games and generally tend to peak in the mid-to-late stages of the campaign. Despite having such a strong start to the season away from home, they have now lost three on the bounce on the road - the first time they have done so since March 2014.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Toby Alderweireld (hamstring) is missing, while Harry Winks (illness) and Victor Wanyama (knee) will both be assessed.
