Watford vs Newcastle United Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Watford continue to sleepwalk towards the end of the campaign as they suffered a 2-0 loss against Tottenham at Wembley. Spurs had an excellent start to the match as Dele Alli capitalised on goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis spilling a cross in the 16th minute. Harry Kane doubled the lead immediately after half-time to put the game beyond Watford’s reach. Newcastle United lost 1-0 against relegation favourites West Brom at St James’ Park. Matt Phillips came up with the only goal in the 29th minute, while the likes of Kennedy went close for the Geordies.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is expected to be a game of few goals, as both Watford and Newcastle have come up with very few goals in recent matches. Even though Newcastle had a number of half-decent chances against West Brom, Rafa Benitez will still feel that his team’s attacking line-up can be improved substantially in the summer. Watford have gone into the hibernation mode ever since they hit 38 points and it is unlikely that the team will recover for this game. I would back under 2.5 goals in the game.

Watford have been unable to score in five out of the last seven games, but it should be remembered that the team has been unable to score at the Vicarage Road only once in this run. Newcastle have a decent attacking line-up even if they have been unable to score in the last two games. I would back both teams to score.

Watford Preview

Watford have been going through a slumber ever since they very able to secure safety in the Premier League. Even though the club are still not mathematically beyond the possibility of relegation, the presence of several teams like Huddersfield, West Ham, and Brighton mean that Watford are unlikely to be pulled into the bottom three. There is absolutely no threat from Watford going forward, as manager Javi Garcia is also missing a number of key players for the last few weeks. Even then, the manager cannot come in with an excuse for having scored just three goals in the last six league matches.

Watford Team News

Roberto Pereyra (groin), Sebastian Prodl (stomach), Younes Kaboul (foot), Tommy Hoban (cruciate ligament), Tom Cleverley (hamstring), and Stefano Okaka (thigh) are unavailable due to injuries.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle’s string of victories almost put them as an outsider for the Europa League places but the form has slipped away in the last two matches. Back-to-back wins may effectively put Newcastle in a position to settle for a top-10 finish. The Magpies need to see off the challenge from Crystal Palace and Bournemouth for this position. Two of the remaining three matches for Newcastle are away from home, but the club’s recent results on the road have been pretty good. After a string of goals in the last month, Ayoze Perez has been unable to score in his last two matches but he still has five league goals.

Newcastle United Team News

Robert Elliott (back) and Christian Atsu (knee) are unavailable for Rafa Benitez.
