Watford vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Watford face Manchester City at Vicarage Road on 09/09/17 as both teams look to build on victories in their most recent outings. Watford defeated Southampton 2-0 away from home last weekend, whilst Manchester City ran out 4-0 winners at Feyenoord in the Champions League in midweek. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City have shown real signs in the past week or so of clicking, which doesn’t bode particularly well for Watford. I’m expecting a Man City win, although perhaps to not be quite as free-scoring in their last two games.

Watford Preview

Watford produced what would be seen in the eyes of many as the ideal away performance away at Southampton last weekend, completely controlling the game and stifling any attempts of the hosts to build any kind of momentum. Abdoulaye Doucouré and Nathaniel Chalobah were excellent in midfield and it was the former who scored the game’s opening goal as he beat Fraser Forster from 25 yards with a low drive. Daryl Janmaat also struck from distance midway through the second half to make it 2-0 to the Hornets, who in winning by that scoreline also made it three successive clean sheets. Only Liverpool have been able to net past Marco Silva’s side so far this year, and the Portuguese manager is enhancing his reputation by the week it seems as his Watford team continue to impress. However, they are still awaiting their first home win of the new season, having drawn 3-3 with Liverpool on the opening day and were held to a 0-0 draw by Brighton after going down to 10 men. In fact, Watford are without a home win since April of this year after also failing to win their final two games of the campaign at Vicarage Road.

Watford Team News

Roberto Pereyra (hip) could feature for Watford, but Younes Kaboul (hamstring), Sebastian Prodl (thigh) and Kiko Femenia (knock) are all doubts. Miguel Britos is still suspended while Craig Cathcart is out with a knee injury.

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City sent a clear message to the rest of Europe’s elite in their 4-0 destruction of Feyenoord last time out, showing that they are ready to tackle the Champions League aggressively this season. John Stones and Sergio Aguero both struck inside the opening ten minutes to give City a dream start, while Gabriel Jesus’ effort ensured they went in 3-0 up at the break. Stones rose highest to head in his second of the game midway through the second half to add gloss to the scoreline, leaving Pep Guardiola extremely happy with his team’s performance. Having beaten Liverpool 5-0 at the weekend also, City are beginning to look as if they are beginning to click this term, with the team looking clinical in attack and cohesive in defence in recent games. Billed as pre-season favourites for the title, the levels reached in their two previous performances suggests they could be in for a successful season, should they remain consistent. Both Aguero and Jesus are beginning to look like a real partnership up front and will be looking to add to their growing tallies this weekend.

Manchester City Team News

Vincent Kompany (calf) is a doubt for City and their only injury concern heading into this fixture.
