Watford vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Watford have made a brilliant start to the campaign with back-to-back wins and the latest came in the form of a 3-1 success over Burnley at Turf Moor. Andre Gray’s opener came after just three minutes, but the hosts were level almost instantly through James Tarkowski’s equaliser. However, second-half goals from Troy Deeney and Will Hughes were able to put Watford in a strong position. Crystal Palace suffered a first league defeat and it was a customary loss against Liverpool at Selhurst Park. The Merseyside outfit were able to get a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from James Milner and Sadio Mane.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Watford may have picked up back-to-back wins at the start of the campaign, but Javi Garcia’s men need a strong performance in order to overcome a terrible record against Palace. The Hornets’ last win over Palace was back in 2016 and they have since suffered three losses in five meetings against this opponent. Palace are likely to go in with a defensive approach knowing that their offensive quality is not sufficient to get a win over Watford, who are high on confidence. I would pick a draw in this match.

This game could end up being a tight affair with little goals at both ends, as Palace may adopt a defensive approach. It would not be a surprise considering that just one of the meetings in the last two campaigns has been with more than 2.5 goals.

Watford Preview

Javi Garcia has made an excellent start to his first full season as a manager at Watford, as the club has picked up two consecutive victories. Watford were under pressure to make a positive start, as games against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United would take over the headlines in September. It was important that Watford grabbed as many points as possible in the first few weeks of the season to give themselves a momentum. Even though Watford finished a respectable seven points above the relegation zone, Garcia’s men will be aware that a season of relegation fight awaits them.

Watford Team News

Younes Kaboul (foot), Ben Wilmot (knee), Tom Cleverley (Achilles tendon), Gerard Deulofeu (abdominal injury), and Stefano Okaka (thigh) are the players missing from action for Watford.

Crystal Palace Preview

Crystal Palace have a dismal home record against Liverpool and it was not a surprise to see the club suffer a defeat against a rather strong Reds outfit. Palace are expected to go through a season of struggle but they need positive results at Selhurst Park in order to fight against relegation. The lack of Christian Benteke continues to be the primary trouble for Hodgson’s team. Palace scored a decent 45 goals last season but the team faces an uphill struggle in order to stay in the division.

Crystal Palace Team News

Connor Wickham (thigh), Jonathan Williams (thigh), and Scott Dann (cruciate ligament) are unavailable for Hodgson, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be suspended for the game.
