Watford vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Marco Silva starts his reign at Watford looking to keep the club in the Premier League – against all odds. The Hornets were able to finish a comfortable eight points above the drop zone but Watford decided to go in with the managerial change anyway. Silva takes charge of a Watford team that has finished in the bottom half of the table in the last three Premier League campaigns. Brighton prepare for a difficult second season in the Premier League with Chris Hughton’s men already rated as one of the favourites to go down.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brighton were able to pick up a long-awaited victory over Watford only in the reverse fixture back in December. The Seagulls, though, are still waiting for their first victory at Vicarage Road since 2012 when both teams were in the Championship. Watford have a number of key players on the sidelines and it could make the difference in this match. Majority of the recent matches between Brighton and Watford have been draws, which would be my pick in this game.

This match promises to be a close contest with both teams evenly matched on several fronts. There is also a strong desire for both teams to avoid defeat on the opening day of the campaign. I would back under 2.5 goals in this match.

Watford Preview

Watford begin the new campaign with several key players on the sidelines and this will put intense strain on Marco Silva ahead of the opening game. Watford had a mediocre home record last season with just seven wins at the Vicarage Road. The biggest issue for Silva will be to build a team that does not have Richarlison, who has joined Everton in a £50 million deal. The Watford team of last season were only able to score just over a goal per game but ended up conceding almost twice this figure. The pre-season results, though, have been quite good for the Hornets.

Watford Team News

Tom Cleverley (Achilles tendon), Mamadou Oulare Obbi (hip), Younes Kaboul (foot), Gerard Deulofeu (ankle), and Stefano Okaka (thigh) are the injury concerns for Silva.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

The 2017-18 campaign went relatively stress free for Brighton and Chris Hughton, as the club were able to stay clear of the drop by regularly picking up points. However, the team ended up with just a seven-point advantage over the bottom three last season, and Hughton is experienced enough to know about the second-season syndrome for a promoted team. Brighton have a tricky round of fixtures with Manchester United and Liverpool as their opponent in two out of the opening three matches. Hughton will be keen on making a good start so as to avoid a blip in confidence levels. Hughton has been backed quite substantially in the market with the signings of Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Yves Bissouma, and Bernardo.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Jason Steele (thigh) is a doubt for the game, while Hughton will be without Florin Andone (groin), Richard Towell (back), Glen Murray (back), and Soufyan Ahannach (leg) for this match.
