Vitesse vs NAC Breda Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Vitesse will be looking to put their disappointing penalty-shootout defeat at the hands of Feyenoord in the Dutch Super Cup a week ago when they welcome NAC Breda at the GelreDome on Saturday night for the opening round of the new Eredivisie campaign. Vitesse lost their Super Cup fixture against Feyenoord recently, with Alexander Buttner scoring the equaliser during the regular time. Meanwhile, NAC Breda won 3-1 at home over Almere City in a friendly fixture last weekend thanks to goals from Rai Vloet, Mounir El Allouchi and Paolo Fernandes. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although they lost their Dutch Super Cup clash with Breda, Vitesse should be able to beat NAC Breda here as they definitely have more quality within their ranks. However, I’m backing NAC Breda to get on the scoresheet as they looked solid in the final third throughout pre-season.

Vitesse Preview

Vitesse suffered a 4-2 defeat on penalties at the hands of Feyenoord in the Dutch Super Cup in a match that featured a bizarre sequence of events involving the VAR system, Video Assistant Referee. Vitesse’s midfielder Karim El Ahmadi was been fouled in the box by Tim Matavz, but the referee waved play on, and Feyenoord managed to score on the counter-attack. However, the referee checked the VAR footage, and the game was stopped for a minute until the referee decided to rule out Feyenoord’s goal and to award Vitesse a penalty. Vitesse finished only 5th in the Eredivisie table last term, but they did well to win the KNVB Beker Cup following a 0-2 win over AZ Alkmaar in the final. That victory booked Vitesse a straight place into the Europa League group stage phase this season. Vitesse had a decent pre-season campaign, having lost just once in their six friendlies. Their most recent friendly fixture ended as a 2-3 win over Reading, with Timo Matavz netting a brace. On home soil, Vitesse have endured a mixed run of form over the past seven months, registering four defeats, five wins and one draw in their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. The good news is that Vitesse are undefeated in their last seven home meetings with NAC Breda across all competitions, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Vitesse Team News

Eloy Room is a doubt, but Alexander Buttner is back in training following his calf injury.

NAC Breda Preview

On the other hand, NAC Breda finished 5th in the Eerste Divisie table last term, but they did well to beat Volendam and NEC Nijmegen in the promotion/relegation play-offs to book their place into the Dutch top tier. They followed this performance with an impeccable pre-season campaign, winning five and drawing once in their six friendlies. Actually, Breda are currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. Cyriel Dessers has played a crucial role in Breda’s promotion in the Eredivisie as he managed to score an amazing tally of 22 goals in the Eerste Divisie last season. However, the 22-year-old striker has been sold to FC Utrecht this summer for just €350,000. The good news is that NAC Breda has strengthened their squad with six Manchester City loanees, as Thierry Ambrose, Angelino, James Horsfield, Paolo Fernandes, Thomas Agyepong and Pablo Mari all came on a one-year loan deal from the Premier League side. In addition, they brought in Rai Vloet and Menno Koch from PSV Eindhoven for a total fee of €200,000. Away from home, Breda are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, including a 1-4 victory over NEC Nijmegen in the promotion/relegation play-offs.

NAC Breda Team News

Bart Meijers, Chiro N’Toko and Robbie Haemhouts are all doubts ahead of this game.
