Valencia vs Villarreal Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Valencia suffered another setback in their efforts to challenge for the title, as the team lost 2-1 against Eibar during the weekend. Takashi Inui provided the opening goal just after the half-time break, but Valencia did equalise the scores through Santi Mina in the 57th minute. As Valencia looked likely to get a point from the game, Joan Jordan headed in a late goal in the 87th minute. Villarreal made a comeback to winning ways after beating Celta de Vigo 1-0 at the Balaidos. Pablo Fornals made a late run into the box and scored from a fine header in the 34th minute to come up with the only goal of the game.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Valencia have home advantage as a key factor in the game, but the away team has been more successful in the last six meetings between these two outfits. Villarreal have won on their last two visits to the Mestalla, but Valencia are unbeaten at home this season with six wins and two draws in eight games. Valencia’s last home win over Villarreal was in 2014. They are due a victory and will be anxious to getting back to winning ways after the loss against Eibar. I would bet on a win for Valencia. The lack of clean sheets is proving to be a costly affair for Valencia, who have not been able to get a shutout in the last five. Villarreal have been able to score in in their last five away matches and in their last two visits to the Mestalla. I see reasonable value in backing both teams to score.

Valencia win – 21/20

Both teams to score – 4/7

Villarreal saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Valencia Preview

Valencia’s title challenge is at a crucial stage as any more dropped points may signal an end to the race with Barcelona. Valencia have fallen into the third spot of the league table, as they have allowed Atletico to erase a sizeable lead and even open up a similar one of their own in the last few weeks. Valencia are now coming under pressure from Real Madrid, who can potentially push Marcelino’s team to 4th place with a big win in their game in hand. Valencia still remain as the second-highest scorers with 36 goals, but the team has only averaged 1.5 goals per match over the last six games. Simone Zaza is the top scorer with 10 league goals.

Valencia Team News

Jeison Murillo (hernia), Gaya (hamstring), Carlos Soler (ankle), and Javier Jimenez (cruciate ligament) are the players out injured for Valencia manager Marcelino.

Villarreal Preview

The victory over Celta de Vigo comes at a crucial time for Villarreal, as the club has been coming under threat from the likes of Eibar and Girona for the final Europa League qualification spot. Villarreal have let themselves down with poor form over the last two months, as the team has been unable to get a string of victories going. Villarreal are amongst the lowest scorers in the top six after having managed 23 goals – only four more than Sevilla. Cedric Bakambu is still top of the Villarreal scoring charts with nine goals.

Villarreal Team News

Ruben Semedo (thigh), Daniele Bonera (hip), Andres Fernandes (cruciate ligament), Nicolo Sansone (calf), and Leonardo Suarez (cruciate ligament) are the players unavailable for Villarreal.
