Valencia vs Girona Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Valencia’s form continues to hit new lows with the team suffering a 1-0 loss against Villarreal to conclude 2017. Carlos Bacca came up with the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, while Simone Zaza’s second yellow card in the 60th minute effectively ended Valencia’s hope of getting anything out of the game. Villarreal were also reduced to 10 men late in the game following Trigueros’ sending-off. Girona suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Eibar in the latest league outing. Goals from Takashi Inui and Charles provided a 2-0 lead for Eibar inside 10 minutes, while David Timor pulled one back through a brilliant free-kick. However, second-half goals from Inui and Joan Jordan provided a comprehensive win for the home team.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Valencia face Girona for the first time, and Marcelino’s team are desperate for three points. Valencia’s home defeat against Villarreal likely to have much of a say this game, as they created a reasonable number of chances sufficient to win the match. Girona come into the game after just one defeat in the last six away matches. Valencia have been winning at half-time and full-time in four out of the last six home matches. I would back this trend to continue. Girona have scored at least a goal in the last nine games of all competitions. Valencia’s strong defensive record has taken a beating in recent weeks. The last clean sheet at home for Valencia was against Leganes in November. I would bet on both teams to score.

Valencia win at half-time/full-time – 6/4

Both teams to score – 8/13

Valencia are undefeated in all of their last 2 games against Girona

Girona saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Girona have conceeded only 3 goals in their last 2 games against Valencia

Valencia Preview

The alarming dip in form for Valencia sees them come under pressure from Real Madrid for the third spot. Over the last five league matches, Marcelino has seen his Valencia outfit pick up just one victory. Valencia went 13 league matches without a league defeat, but they have now lost three out of the last four games. Scoring goals was a forte of the team for majority of the campaign, but Marcelino has seen his team just six goals in as many games. Simone Zaza is the top scorer at Valencia with 10 league goals, but he has scored only once in his last six games.

Valencia Team News

Simone Zaza and Martin Montoya are suspended for the game. Javier Jimenez (cruciate ligament), Carlos Soler (ankle), and Jeison Murillo (hernia) are unavailable for the game due to injuries.

Girona Preview

Girona are looking for a positive start to 2018 after having ended 2017 with a humbling loss against Eibar. The club have the potential to remain without relegation fears, at least for the next few weeks. The team has an eight-point advantage over Deportivo La Coruna in the bottom three. Despite being a newly promoted team, an even share of points have come from home and away matches. The biggest surprise from Girona over the last six away matches has been a return of 11 points. Christian Stuani is just one goal shy of getting into double figures for this La Liga campaign.

Girona Team News

Marc Muniesa (ankle) and Pedro Alcala (ankle) are unavailable for the game due to injuries.
