Ukraine vs Turkey Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Ukraine and Turkey will be facing each other at the Oblasny SportKomplex Metalist on Saturday night, with both sides looking for the second place of their World Cup qualifying group I table. Ukraine picked up a narrow 1-2 victory on the road at Finland last time out thanks to two second-half goals from Evgen Konoplyanka and Artem Besiedin. On the other hand, Turkey won 1-4 against the World Cup qualifying debutants Kosovo, with Volkan Sen, Cengiz Under, Burak Yilmaz and Ozan Tufan all getting on the scoresheet. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams looked dangerous in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign and this fixture should be a goal fest. Three of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen at least three goals scored. In addition, the Turks have scored at least two goals in four of their last five games across all competitions.

Ukraine Preview

Ukraine’s form over the past year has seen them lose four, win four and draw two of their last ten games across all competitions. The Ukrainians were beaten by Croatia back in March and they followed this up with an embarrassing 0-1 home loss at the hands of Malta in a friendly game back in June. The good news is that they bounced back with a narrow 1-2 away win over Finland four days later after their loss to Malta. Ukraine currently sit in 4th spot in the Group I table tied on eleven points with their Saturday’s opponents, but they have an inferior goal difference. The Ukrainians looked very well-organized at the back throughout this qualifying campaign, conceding just five goals in their six games, which is the second best defensive record in the group. At home, Ukraine were on a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions prior to their 0-1 loss at the hands of Malta in their most recent home fixture. However, they are undefeated in three home games throughout this qualifying campaign, keeping a clean sheet in two of these. The bad news is that Ukraine have lost their both home meetings with Turkey across all competitions, conceding four goals and scoring none. Artem Kravets and Andriy Yarmolenko have been Ukraine’s most dangerous players in front of goal during this campaign, having scored three goals each.

Ukraine Team News

For the first time in a while, Ukraine have more Dynamo Kiev players than Shakhtar in their squad. Both Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko have both been called up, with the latter recently signing a contract with Borussia Dortmund.

Turkey Preview

Turkey, on the other hand, have enjoyed a strong run of form over the past year, losing just once in their last nine games across all competitions. Their sole defeat came at the hands of Iceland back in October 2016, but they managed to pick up back-to-back wins over Kosovo and Finland since then, keeping two clean sheets in the process. Furthermore, the Turks have scored at least two goals in four of their last five games across all competitions. They find themselves in 3rd spot in the standings tied on eleven points with Ukraine, just two points behind the joint-leaders Iceland and Croatia. In addition, the Turks are the group’s joint topscorers with eleven goals under their belts, with five of their players scoring a brace each. Away from home, Turkey were on a three-game winless streak across all competitions prior to their 1-4 win in Kosovo in their most recent trip. The good news is that the Turks are undefeated in the last four meetings with Ukraine across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in three of these. In addition, they picked up back-to-back wins in their two visits to Ukraine, conceding none in the process.

Turkey Team News

The new coach Mircea Lucescu has decided to call back Arda Turan and Emre Belozoglu, but he dropped Oguzhan Ozyakup.
