Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Tottenham exited a second cup competition in the space of a few days after a 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Palace were quite disappointing in the match and it took only nine minutes for Connor Wickham to open the scoring with his first goal of the campaign. Andros Townsend converted a penalty just before half-time to hand a victory for Palace. Watford reached the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 success over Newcastle at St James’ Park. Andre Gray broke the deadlock in the 61st minute after a goalless first half while a late effort from Isaac Success was able to hand a win for Watford.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Spurs have been able to pick up six consecutive home wins over Watford but the team are in a spot of bother coming into this match. The creativity issue seen in the match against Crystal Palace may be addressed by the return of Christian Eriksen, but there is little other than Fernando Llorente up front. The lack of Dele Alli and Harry Kane is a significant blow for Spurs while Watford are in good form coming into the game. However, a draw is a highly likely outcome in this match.

There has been a dearth of goals from Spurs in recent weeks that Watford’s defence has not been the best around. Even after watching Watford registered three clean sheets in the last four matches, there is a reason to expect over 2.5 goals in the game.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino once again has to lift his team from a slump. Earlier in the campaign, there were several questions about Tottenham’s ability to repeat of the achievements of last season or even better. Spurs dealt with those doubts with aplomb, but a similar situation is once again coming up. However, Tottenham have players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli unavailable at this moment. Spurs cannot afford to drop points as they are at the risk of being caught up by Chelsea, Arsenal, and United. The lack of Christian Eriksen weekend’s match against Crystal Palace was quite decisive and the midfielder has a major role to play in the coming weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Ben Davies (groin), Harry Kane (ankle), Mousa Sissoko (knee), and Dele Alli (hamstring) are unavailable for Spurs.

Watford Preview

Watford have once again put together an amazing run of form as seen in the early part of the campaign. Crucially, this current run has helped the Hornets move to the edge of European qualification with the team leading the pack of teams like Wolves, West Ham, and Leicester City. There have not been major signings at Watford in the January window and this does not present a cause of concern with manager Javi Gracia extracting the best from players like Etienne Capoue and Jose Holebas. Roberto Pereyra remains as the top scorer at Watford but with only six goals.

Watford Team News

Abdoulaye Doucoure (knee) and Kiko (hamstring) are unavailable for Watford.
