Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Tottenham Hotspur host Stoke City at Wembley Stadium on 09/12/17 as both sides look to build on victories in their last outings. Spurs won 3-0 at home to APOEL in the Champions League in midweek, as Stoke fought from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 at the Bet365 Stadium. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Returning to winning ways in the week will have given this Tottenham team a timely boost and they are far too good of a side to let this winless slump in the league continue. Stoke still aren’t completely convincing and I’m going for a home win this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Rotation was the policy for Spurs in midweek as a much-changed side ensured they finished the group stages unbeaten in the Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win against Cypriot side APOEL. Fernando Llorente finally broke his goalscoring duck with the opening goal after 20 minutes, before Heung-Min Son brilliantly curled the ball inside the far post after linking with the Spanish target man. Georges-Kevin N’Koudou then wrapped up the win with his first goal for Tottenham late on, as they put an end to a three-game wait for a victory. However, they are still without a victory in their last four Premier League games, struggling especially away from home during that time having taken just a single point from their three trips on the road. Now facing back-to-back home matches in the same of five days, Pochettino’s side can’t settle for any less than six points from these two games against Stoke and Brighton, especially with Manchester City away to come next weekend. This recent drought in the Premier League has cost Tottenham dearly, with the team now sat four points behind Liverpool in 4th and a huge 18 points off Manchester City, with their hopes of the title deserted before Christmas.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Toby Alderweireld (hamstring) and Victor Wanyama (knee) are both set to miss out through injury, while Davinson Sanchez is suspended.

Stoke City Preview

When Wilfried Bony gave Swansea a 3rd minute lead at the Bet365 Stadium last weekend, Stoke fans would’ve been forgiven for fearing the absolute worst for their team. Bony couldn’t hit the proverbial barn door in a Stoke shirt as he looked to come back to haunt his former side, but a rally from the Potters saw them come away with a vital three points. Xherdan Shaqiri maintained his excellent form of late to pull the hosts level, before Mame Biram Diouf scored the winning goal five minutes before the break. After entering the game without a win in four, defeat would have really left the team reeling and facing the possibility of being dragged into the mire, but big performances from big players helped them turn the game around. Joe Allen was instrumental in midfield and they’ll need a similar tenacity from him going forward, while Shaqiri is finally beginning to show consistency, having scored three goals and provided three assists in his last six games. The personnel in this Stoke side does not befit that of a team struggling in the bottom half, though they only have themselves to blame for their current state. Facing both Spurs and Burnley away in their next two, Stoke will need to be at their best to get points on the board.

Stoke City Team News

Defenders Bruno Martins Indi (groin) and Geoff Cameron (concussion) are both ruled out.
