Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Tottenham were able to hold on for a crucial 1-0 derby victory over West Ham during the weekend. Erik Lamela’s finish just before half-time changed the dynamics of the game and Spurs were able to come away with three points from a difficult game. However, Spurs’ midweek match against PSV concluded as a 2-2 draw with the London outfit being reduced to 10 men. Manchester City enjoyed a five-star performance after beating Burnley 5-0 at home last weekend. Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez, and Leroy Sane all put their names on the scoresheets. City also became the first English team to win against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine following a splendid 3-0 success in the Champions League.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

City are aiming for a fourth consecutive win over Spurs and Guardiola’s team have dismantled Spurs during this period with a 10-2 aggregate score. This does not read well for Tottenham, who committed several individual mistakes against PSV. A repeat of the same could end up producing a big win for City, who have had to travel a long distance in the midweek game. Yet, the fixture being scheduled on Monday night makes the game competitive. The return of players like Christian Eriksen made Spurs look offensively brilliant once again. I would pick over 2.5 goals in the match.

Sergio Aguero has gone five games without a goal against Tottenham, but he still happens to possess an incredible record against the London outfit – 10 goals in just 12 league outings. The Argentine has been in brilliant form with four goals in his last five games. After being rested against Shakhtar Donetsk, I would back Aguero to score anytime.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Spurs have been able to put away concerns of tiredness, but there were plenty of defensive mistakes for Mauricio Pochettino to ponder over from the recent trip to PSV Eindhoven. Spurs could have easily won the game and improved their chances of qualification to the knockout stages, but a five-point deficit to Inter Milan leaves the London team in a tricky situation. The Premier League, however, has been kind to Spurs, who are now just two points away from the top. Pochettino also has had several star names return from injuries.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Vincent Janssen (foot), Danny Rose (groin), and Jan Vertonghen (hamstring) are the three injury concerns for Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester City Preview

Guardiola was able to rotate his team and still enjoying an immense performance in the midweek Champions League game. Apart from the huge win, there were also positives in the form of Kevin De Bruyne’s return from a lengthy injury layoff. The good form enjoyed by Riyad Mahrez has reduced the impact of De Bruyne’s injury and City have been able to win seven out of the nine league games this season. Gabriel Jesus is likely to be relegated back to the bench after featuring in the Champions League, while City’s Premier League top scorer Sergio Aguero will come back to the starting line-up.

Manchester City Team News

Claudio Bravo (Achilles tendon), Danilo (ankle), and Ilkay Gundogan (hamstring) are unavailable for Guardiola.
