Toronto FC vs San Jose Earthquakes Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Toronto went into the international break with a comfortable 3-1 win over Montreal Impact. Sebastian Giovinco once again made a major impact in the game by coming up with the opening goal just before half-time. Second-half goals from Jozy Altidore and Giovinco provided a comfortable three points for Toronto, who were unable to keep a clean sheet due to Ignacio Piatti’s late goal. San Jose Earthquakes picked up a surprise away win after beating LA Galaxy 3-0 at the Stubhub Centre. Valeri Qazaishvili scored on the cusp of half-time, but Nathan Smith’s red card in the second half proved crucial. Late goals from Marco Urena and Chris Wondolowski helped San Jose end a disappointing away form. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Toronto come into the game after having won 10 out of the last 11 games at the BMO Field. The club have been overpowering almost every opponent at home after scoring 16 in the last six at home. Even though San Jose ended a disappointing away form with the win over LA Galaxy, Leitch’s team have been far from convincing in recent weeks. San Jose have conceded 19 in the last six away games. I would go with a 3-0 win for Toronto.

Four out of the recent five games for Toronto have been with more than 2.5 goals, while the same also applies for the recent four league games for San Jose. I would go with this game to produce over 2.5 goals.

Toronto FC Preview

Toronto have been able to win the last four matches to establish a nine point lead over New York City. Even though Toronto have played a game more than City, it is still a substantial advantage with just seven games left in the regular season for Greg Vanney’s team. Toronto has showed plenty of resilience and quality this season, and it is not surprising to see them made as one of the strong favourites for the MLS Cup 2017. Toronto have suffered just one defeat in the last 12 league matches. Sebastian Giovinco is now the top scorer at the club with 15 goals.

Toronto FC Team News

Nick Hagglund (ligament) and Benoit Cheyrou (calf) are the players unavailable for Toronto FC.

San Jose Earthquakes Preview

San Jose were able to end the disastrous away form – especially since the appointment of Chris Leitch – with a crucial win over LA Galaxy. However, the club had to rely on a late goal in the first half to change the complexion of the game. San Jose are still vulnerable to suffering heavy defeats on the road, while the club’s home form is substantially better with four wins in the last six games at the Avaya stadium. Chris Wondolowski is the top scorer at San Jose this season with 11 league goals.

San Jose Earthquakes Team News

Marvell Wynne (heart), Mark Sherrod (meniscus), Harold Cummings (ankle), Nick Lima (thigh), Marc Pelosi (knee), and Florian Jungwirth (shoulder) are the injury concerns for San Jose Earthquakes.
