Swansea City vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Swansea City face Watford at the Liberty Stadium on 23/09/17 after both teams fared differently in their respective meetings with two of last season’s top-four. Swansea drew 0-0 away at Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester City rolled Watford over in a 6-0 victory at Vicarage Road. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Watford have a 100% record away from home this season, while Swansea have lost both of their opening home matches. I’m expecting Watford to get a result here following a frustrating afternoon last time out.

Swansea City Preview

It may have been the fourth match from five in which Swansea City have failed to register on the scoresheet, but on this occasion it won’t have mattered too much for Swansea fans after seeing their team resolutely battle for a draw against Tottenham. Having been extremely disappointing during their 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle the week prior, this was a far better all-round performance from Paul Clement’s side, although they rode their luck at time with Harry Kane twice striking the woodwork and perhaps should’ve conceded a penalty, also. Swansea are unbeaten in five away games in all competitions so far this season, winning three and drawing two and have conceded just one goal during that time. What’s surprising is they have been unable to gain a point or even score in their two home games this season, conceding five in the process. After losing both Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente late in the transfer window, it seems most of Swansea’s attacking threat has gone with it and they will be relying on Wilfried Bony to regain his sharpness to and recapture the form which made him a fan favourite at Swansea during his first spell at the club.

Swansea City Team News

Kyle Bartley (knee) is ruled out once again for Swansea, although Nathan Dyer (achilles) could be available.

Watford Preview

Despite looking defensively solid to this point of the season, Watford had no answer for a rampant Manchester City performance at Vicarage Road last weekend, finding themselves 3-0 down at half-time. Sergio Aguero caused mayhem in the Watford defence and he was mainly responsible for their early lead, scoring twice and providing the assist for Gabriel Jesus’ strike. Nicolas Otamendi scored in the second half, with Aguero then completing his hat-trick ten minutes from time before Raheem Sterling’s penalty sealed the rout. It may not make the team feel any better, but the quality of Manchester City’s attacking options means this kind of result could be inflicted on anybody in the division, even a Watford side who had previously kept three clean sheets on the bounce coming into the fixture. Given the counter-attacking nature of Marco Silva’s side, they have seemingly become a team more suited to playing away from home, winning each of their first two away games at Bournemouth and Southampton 2-0. Alternatively, they have failed to score in their last two at Vicarage Road, taking just one point from a possible six during that time period.

Watford Team News

Miguel Britos serves the final game of his suspension here, while Craig Cathcart misses out with a knee problem. Younes Kaboul (hamstring) and Sebastian Prodl (thigh) are both doubts.
