Swansea City vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Swansea City dropped back into the bottom three after a 1-0 loss against Bournemouth. An intelligent set piece moment from Bournemouth led to a 37th minute goal from Ryan Fraser, while Swansea had a couple of half chances in the 90 minutes. Southampton moved out of the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park. The result could have been so much better as the Saints came close to winning the game following a 56th minute goal from Nathan Redmond. Even with defender Maya Yoshida’s late sending off, Southampton appeared to be heading for a point only for Tom Davies’ short to take a wicked deflection in the fifth minute of injury time.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Home advantage might be extremely crucial for Swansea, who came in with a decent performance against Bournemouth. Southampton’s moral might be broken considering the circumstances of the draw with Everton. Despite Southampton managing three wins in the last four visits to the Liberty Stadium, there will be a lot of nervousness within the squad. Swansea are on an eight-game sequence without wins, but the team has picked up four wins in the last six games at the Liberty Stadium. I would go with a win for Swansea.

This six-pointer is expected to be a nervous affair, but Swansea have struggled for clean sheets at home of late. Even though the Welsh outfit are not renowned for goals, they are up against a Southampton outfit who have decent strength going forward. The latest game between these two clubs at Liberty Stadium finished with a 2-1 score. I would choose goals over 2.5 in total.

Swansea City Preview

Swansea enjoyed a spirited run in the first 10 matches under Carlos Carvalhal and it seemed that the former Sheffield Wednesday manager would get the Welsh team to safety quite comfortably. However, Swansea have just been unable to pick themselves up from a poor run and they find themselves back in the drop zone at the worst possible time. The team needs to come up with a remarkable recovery in the last two matches so as to avoid the drop. Swansea are helped by these two matches being at the Liberty Stadium and both matches are against their relegation rivals.

Swansea City Team News

Carlos Carvalhal will be without Wilfried Bony (cruciate ligament), Leroy Fer (Achilles tendon), and Kyle Bartley (knee) due to injuries.

Southampton Preview

Mark Hughes was in the disbelief after seeing his Southampton team concede in the last minute of injury time against Everton. The Saints came extremely close to a second consecutive league victory, but the team will have to pick themselves up rather soon. Even though the point against Everton lifted Southampton out of the bottom three, the team know that it could have been a far better outcome. Southampton’s big hopes of avoiding relegation rest in the away game against Swansea, as the team are up against champions Manchester City in the final game of the campaign.

Southampton Team News

Maya Yoshida is suspended for the game after his sending off against Everton. Mario Lemina (hamstring) and Steven Davies (Achilles tendon) are unavailable for manager Mark Hughes.
