Swansea City vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who would have hoped to be among the promotion hopeful this season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Swansea ended a three-game winless run with a 3-2 defeat of Brentford though they made it hard work of it considering they were three up in 27 minutes.  Wayne Routledge, a Leroy Fer penalty and an own-goal made it look they were coasting but the Bees fought back and the Welsh outfit were hanging on at the end.

Sheffield Wednesday picked up a point at home to Rotherham last time out in a 2-2 draw though it did little to ease the pressure on their manager Jos Luhukay.  The Owls had Lucas Joao to thank as his brace enabled them to secure a point.

These two sides met in the FA Cup last season and after a goalless draw at Hillsborough it ended 2-0 to City in the replay.  Their last five meetings have produced a total of just four goals between them.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Swansea are the team I think that will win this game but I would not be backing a side at those odds who are so inconsistent.Sheffield Wednesday are a mess though and I would not be siding with them.

The visitors have scored around 65% of their goals in the second-half and the hosts a more even 50%. I think backing the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half and both teams to score in this period is the way forward.

Swansea City Preview

The Swans have won four and lost four of their last eight and this explains why they sit in the centre of the table. They are in 12th place six places and seven points behind Middlesbrough in sixth.

At the Liberty Stadium, they have lost their last two and three of their previous five though two of these have come to top six opponents. Two of their next three visitors here are teams in the bottom-half.

Each of the last four Swansea fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score. They have managed to find the back of the net at least once in each of their previous eight.

Swansea City Team News

Daniel James (hamstring), Tom Carroll (hip), George Byers, (groin) and Jordi Govea (unknown) are doubts while Luciano Narsingh (also hamstring) is closing in on a return.  Martin Olsson (Achilles) has been ruled out for the season.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

The Owls have taken just five points from their last nine and are closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs. They sit in 17th with 24 points and manager Jos Luhukay looks like being the next manager to be sacked in the division as fans have lost their patience with him.

Away from Hillsborough, they have lost their last three and taken just one point from the previous four. They now face three consecutive road trips to teams in the current top 12 of the table.

Each of the last two and three of the last four Sheffield Wednesday matches have seen both teams score and gone over 2.5 goals. Four of the last five goals they have netted have come in the second-half.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Joost van Aken (ankle) and Fernando Forestieri (foot) are a few weeks from a return while Sam Winnall (hamstring), Kieran Lee (knee) and Gary Hooper (groin) are long-term absentees.  Barry Bannan will miss the next two games through suspension.
