Swansea City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who were successful in their opening fixture. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Swansea bounced back from going a goal behind to claim all three points at Bramall Lane with a 2-1 defeat of Sheffield United. Ollie McBurnie got them back level and then Yan Dhanda netted the winner on his debut. Preston got their season off to a good start as they defeated QPR at Deepdale 1-0 in their opener. The goalscorer on that occasion was Alan Browne though they should have added more. The last time these two sides met was way back in 2011 so it is hard to read too much into their head-to-head record. For what it is worth the home side has won each of the last five meetings between the duo.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Swans are the favourites to win this game and while that is hard to argue with I would not like to back them here as Preston are tricky away opponents and as such looking at other markets for the value makes sense. The 23 road matches played in the Championship last season saw a total of just 15 goals netted at both ends so have an interest on the game to be level going into the break and the correct half-time score to be 0-0.

Swansea City Preview

The Swans need to make their own ground a fortress again this season as no side in the Premier League lost more at home than the ten they were defeated in. They are five without a victory at the Liberty Stadium. The Welsh outfit netted just 17 times from their 19 fixtures last season something they must improve up on this time around. They have netted just two times in their last five at their own ground in all competitions. The defence was strong though as they conceded just 24 times at home which was a mid-level placing in the Premier League defensive table. Just three of the last eight Swansea have played in Wales have gone over 2.5 goals.

Swansea City Team News

Sam Clucas (knee), Wilfried Bony (cruciate) and Leroy Fer (Achiles) are all unlikely to feature.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites lost the joint lowest amount of road games in the division last season and will look to keep this going this season. They have lost just two of their last 15 Championship away fixtures. The 30 road goals they grabbed last season was the joint-fourth best record in the division for 2017/18. In just one of their last 11 matches on their travels have the Lancashire side failed to score The 24 goals Preston conceded away from home last season was only bettered by three sides in the division two of whom got promotion. In just one of their last 15 on the road have they conceded more than one goal.

Preston North End Team News

Billy Bodin (cruciate) is out until February 2019 while Sean Maguire (hamstring) is out until October.
